LG V20 Primary Rear-Facing Camera Replacement

Ensure all data is backed up before proceeding, as this guide may involve disassembly of your device.

  • Rigorously clean the Lens and surrounding areas with a soft brush or cloth to ensure there's no debris obstructing the camera.
  • Check for any software issues by resetting your phone's CAMERA APP settings and ensuring the IMAGE QUALITY SETTING is not set to low.
  • If still experiencing issues, inspect the rear-facing camera module for any visible signs of damage or misalignment.
  • Be extremely cautious when handling components and avoid applying excessive force, which may cause damage to the phone's internal mechanisms.

  • Follow proper disassembly procedures to safely remove the rear-facing camera module from your LG V20 device.

Step 1 | Battery

Never attempt to disassemble a charged lithium-ion battery, as it can catch fire and/or explode if damaged.

  • Discharge the battery below 25% before proceeding with disassembly.
  • Pry bar or fingernail: insert under the battery at the small recess on the lower edge.
  • Take care not to deform or puncture the battery.
  • Pry up and remove the battery completely.

Step 2 | Midframe Assembly

  • Disconnect and remove the 16 x 4mm Phillips #00 screws securing the back cover.

Check if top and bottom frame sections can be removed by hand.

If stuck, use a flat spudger to apply pressure to one corner, creating a small gap.

Insert an opening pick into the gap, then slide it along the gap to release the frame.

  • Flip the phone over with the gap facing up.
  • Continue sliding the opening pick until the frame section separates from its clamps.

Step 5

Be careful when handling internal components.

  • Remove the from one end of the phone.
  • Repeat this process with the other end of the phone.
  • Inside the top frame, locate and gently remove a small silver grating covering the speaker.

Insert an opening pick between the loudspeaker and its mounting point on the motherboard cover.

Be careful not to damage the surrounding components or scratch the motherboard.

Locate the plastic clamps holding the motherboard cover in place.

  • Insert an opening pick into the right corner at the bottom of the phone.
  • Pry up gently until the motherboard cover pops out of its plastic clamp.

  • Slip the opening pick along the mid frame.
  • Flip the pick sideways to release the plastic clamps.

Be careful not to damage the surrounding components.

Remove the motherboard cover.

Step 10 | Front-Facing Camera

Disconnect the front camera flex cable using a spudger's flat end.

  • If you plan to remove the motherboard, skip removing the front facing camera now.
  • However, if unsure, use tweezers to carefully remove it afterwards. Be cautious not to damage the sensor pcb.
  • To completely remove the front facing camera, use tweezers, gripping only the body of the camera, and avoid touching the top, which is held by glue.

Step 11 | Motherboard Assembly

Use the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the flex cable of the left rear camera.

  • The second rear camera will come out with the motherboard since it is connected on the other side.
  • Careful removal required:

    Leave the front facing camera in place unless you're unsure, then use a pair of tweezers to carefully remove it.

Step 12

Use the flat end of a spudger to gently disconnect the display flex cable.

Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully lift up the motherboard assembly.

  • Lift up the motherboard assembly until you have a good grip.
  • Remove the motherboard assembly.

Step 14 | Primary Rear-Facing Camera

Flip the motherboard assembly over.

  • Disconnect the rear camera flex cable using a flat-ended spudger.
  • Use a pair of tweezers to remove the rear camera.
