LG V20 Loudspeaker Replacement

Check if your LG V20's main speaker is disconnected or damaged by testing its audio output.

  • Play music on your phone to test the speaker's quality.
  • If the sound is distorted or very faint, proceed with replacing the speaker.

Step 1 | Battery

A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire and/or explode if accidentally punctured.

  • Discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling your phone.
  • Fingernail or spudger, insert into the small recess on the lower edge of the battery.
  • Pry up and carefully remove the battery without deforming or puncturing it.

Step 2 | Midframe Assembly

Remove all 16 x 4mm Phillips #00 screws securing the back cover.

  • The screws are attached to the back cover and the motherboard.

Try pulling the top and bottom frame sections away from the mid frame.

  • If they don't come off easily, use the flat end of a spudger.
  • Apply pressure to one corner until you create a small gap.

  • Flip the phone over.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.
    • Slide the opening pick along the gap until the frame section pops out of its plastic clamps.

Step 5

Be aware that the speaker grille can come loose.

  • Remove the frame section.
  • Repeat this with the other frame section.
  • Inside, look out for a small silver grating over the speaker, which may fall off.

Insert an opening pick between the speaker and its mounting point on the motherboard.

  • Gently pry the speaker away from the motherboard, working your way around the edges.

Locate the motherboard cover and its plastic clamps.

  • Pry up the motherboard cover using an opening pick at the right corner, starting from the bottom of your phone.

Be careful not to apply too much pressure and damage any surrounding components.

Insert an opening pick into the gap between the mid frame and the motherboard cover.

  • Slide the pick along the mid frame until you reach the plastic clamps.
  • Flip the pick sideways to release the clamps and remove the motherboard cover.

Step 9

Remove the motherboard cover.

Step 10 | Loudspeaker

Be careful not to damage the plastic clamp.

  • Flip the motherboard cover.
  • Pull the loudspeaker out of the clamp at the lower end.
