LG V20 Headphone Jack Replacement

This repair guide is intended for replacing the headphone jack on an LG V20 device.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Press the power/clamp release button located on the lower right side.

  • Release the back cover by opening the clamp.
  • Remove the back cover from the device.

Step 2 | Battery

A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire/explosion risk if accidentally punctured.

  • Discharge battery below 25% before disassembling.
  • Insert a spudger or your fingernail under the battery at the lower edge recess.
  • Pry up and remove the battery, taking care not to deform/destruct it.

Step 3 | Midframe Assembly

Remove sixteen Phillips #00 screws, each 4mm in length, securing the back cover to the motherboard.

Try to gently pull the top and bottom frame sections away from the mid frame.

  • If they don't budge, use the flat end of a spudger to apply pressure to one corner.
  • Create a small gap before attempting to remove the frame section.

  • Hold the phone upside down, then carefully insert an opening pick into the previously created gap.
  • Slowly slide the opening pick along the gap to release the frame from its plastic holders.

Step 6

Be cautious when handling the small silver grating, as it can fall out and be lost.

  • Remove the frame section from one end of the phone.
  • Repeat this procedure with the other end's frame section.

Note that the top frame section contains a small silver grating covering the speaker.

Use an opening pick to carefully pry the loudspeaker away from the motherboard cover.

Locate the plastic clamps holding the motherboard cover.

  • Insert an opening pick under the right corner at the bottom of the phone.
  • Pry up gently until the motherboard cover pops out of its plastic clamp.

Slide the opening pick along the mid-frame.

  • Flip it sideways to release the plastic clamps.
  • The mother board cover will now be loose.

Remove the motherboard cover.

Step 11 | Front-Facing Camera

Disconnect the front camera flex cable using the flat end of a spudger.

  • If you plan to remove the motherboard assembly, it's safe to leave the front facing camera attached.
  • However, if unsure, carefully remove the front facing camera with a pair of tweezers.

When removing the front facing camera with tweezers, be careful to only grip the body of the camera and avoid touching the top, which is held on by glue.

Step 12 | Motherboard Assembly

Disconnect the flex cable of the left rear camera using the flat end of a spudger.

  • The second rear camera will be removed with the motherboard as it is connected on the other side.
  • Leaving the front facing camera in place is safe, but be careful when handling the motherboard assembly.
  • If unsure, carefully remove the front facing camera with a pair of tweezers

Step 13

Use the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the display flex cable.

Insert the spudger's pointed end under the motherboard.

  • Lift the motherboard upwards using the spudger.
  • Remove the motherboard once a secure grip is established.

Step 15 | Headphone Jack

Apply heat from an iOpener to loosen the adhesive under the headphone jack and its associated flex cable.

Step 16

Remove the headphone jack using a pair of tweezers.

  • Gently pull it up and out of its recess.
  • If the flex cable is glued in tight, reapply the iOpener to soften the adhesive further.
