LG V20 Front Facing Camera Replacement

A blurry selfie could indicate a damaged front-facing camera.

  • Rearrange the phone's settings to access the camera app.
  • Inspect the front-facing camera lens for visible damage or debris.

Step 1 | Battery

Never discharge a lithium-ion battery above 25% for disassembly, risk of fire or explosion.

  • Insert a spudger into the small recess at the lower edge to pry up the battery.
  • Pry carefully to avoid deforming or puncturing the battery, then lift it out.

Step 2 | Midframe Assembly

Remove all 16 x 4mm Phillips #00 screws.

Tight frame sections may require additional effort for removal.

  • Pull on top and bottom frame sections with your hands.
  • If not removable, use the flat end of a spudger to apply pressure to one corner.
  • Create a small gap before proceeding.

  • Flip the phone over and insert an opening pick into the gap.
  • Guide the opening pick along the gap to release the frame section.

Step 5

Remove the frame section.

  • Repeat this procedure with the frame section on the other end of the phone.

Be careful not to lose the small silver grating covering the speaker within the top frame section, as it may fall out.

Take care not to damage the speaker cables.

  • Use a opening pick to carefully pry the loudspeaker from its mount on the motherboard cover.

Locate the plastic clamps holding the motherboard cover.

  • Insert an opening pick into the bottom-right corner of the phone and gently pry up the mother board cover.
  • The cover should pop out of the first plastic clamp.

Slide the opening pick along the mid frame, then flip it sideways to release the plastic clamps.

Remove the motherboard cover.

Step 10 | Front-Facing Camera

Use the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the front camera flex cable.

  • If you plan to remove the motherboard assembly, skip removing the front facing camera after disconnection.
  • However, if unsure, use tweezers to carefully remove the camera, gripping only its body and not the sensor PCB on top, which is held by glue and removal will damage it.

Be careful when handling the front facing camera, as removing the sensor PCB with glue can result in damage.
