LG V20 Earpiece Speaker Replacement

This repair guide is for replacing the earpiece speaker on an LG V20 device.

Step 1 | Battery

A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire or explode if accidentally punctured.

  • Discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling your phone.
  • Insert a spudger under the battery at the small recess on the lower edge.
  • Pry up and remove the battery, taking care not to deform or puncture it.

Step 2 | Midframe Assembly

Remove 16 x 4mm Phillips #00 screws securing the back cover to the motherboard.

Hold the top and bottom firmly against the mid .

  • If they come off easily, proceed.
  • If not, use a spudger with flat end to apply pressure to one corner until a small gap forms.

Flip the phone over.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap created.
  • Slide the pick along the gap until the frame section is released from its plastic clamps.

Step 5

Remove the .

  • Repeat this procedure with the on the other end of the phone.
  • Be careful when handling the top frame section, as a small silver grating covering the speaker may fall out and be lost.

Remove the loudspeaker from the motherboard cover using a spudger (opening pick).

  • Gently pry the loudspeaker away from its attachment point.

Careful not to damage the plastic clamps.

  • Locate the plastic clamps holding the motherboard cover in place.
  • Insert an opening pick at the right corner, bottom of your phone and pry up until it releases from one clamp.

Slide the opening pick along the mid frame and flip it sideways to release the plastic clamps holding the motherboard cover in place.

Remove the motherboard cover.

Step 10 | Front-Facing Camera

Disconnect the front camera flex cable using a spudger.

  • If removing the motherboard assembly, skip the next step.
  • Careful handling recommended: remove the front facing camera with tweezers, gripping only the body to avoid damaging the sensor.
  • Be extremely cautious not to touch the sensor when removing the front facing camera, as it is glued in place and removal will cause damage.

Step 11 | Motherboard Assembly

Disconnect the flex cable of the left rear camera using the flat end of a spudger.

  • The second rear camera is connected on the other side and will remain attached to the motherboard.
  • You can leave the front facing camera in place, but be careful when removing the motherboard assembly.
  • If unsure, carefully remove the front facing camera with a pair of tweezers.

Use the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the display flex cable.

Use the pointed end of a spudger to gently pry the motherboard assembly upwards.

  • Continue lifting until you have a secure grip on the assembly.
  • Once secure, carefully lift up and remove the motherboard assembly.

Step 14 | Earpiece Speaker

Apply heat from an iOpener to loosen the adhesive under the earpiece speaker and its flex cable.

Remove the earpiece speaker using a pair of tweezers.

  • Lift the speaker out carefully, taking care not to damage the adjacent small flex cable.
  • Gently remove the flex cable from its attachment point.
