LG Thrill 4G Motherboard Replacement

The motherboard is a crucial component that powers all electronics, including the LG Thrill 4G.

Step 1 | Back Cover Removal

Use a plastic opening tool or your fingernail to pry open the back cover.

Be careful not to apply too much pressure, which may damage the surrounding components.

  • The back cover has a small notch at the bottom for easy removal.

Step 2 | Battery Removal

Locate the battery and gently lift it up, noticing the small ledge at the bottom which aids in its extraction.

  • Pinch the battery between your thumb and index finger to release it from the phone's casing.

Step 3 | Screw Removal

Locate and remove three Philips #00 screws on the phone's bottom.

  • Remove the screw located at the lower right corner (5.5 mm).
  • Continue by removing the two remaining 5.5 mm screws.
  • Finally, remove the single 4 mm screw

Step 4 | Speaker Removal

Insert the tip of an opening tool into the small notch at the bottom of the phone, or use a finger.

Be gentle to avoid damaging the surrounding components.

Step 5 | Buttons

Remove the power button, volume button, and 3D camera button from their respective positions on the phone's sides and top.

Position the plastic opening tool at either bottom corner of the HDMI cover.

  • This action will loosen both the HDMI and USB covers, allowing for simple removal.
  • Remove the USB Cover.
  • Next, remove the HDMI Cover.

  • Remove the six Phillips #00 screws located within the mid-cover bezel.

Step 8 | Ribbon Cable Disconnection

Use a plastic opening tool or spudger to carefully release the ribbon cable connected to the black micro-SIM card board.

Step 9 | SD/SIM Card Board Removal

Carefully pry the board upwards using a flat tool.

  • Pry the small tab away from the camera unit.

Step 10 | Motherboard

Disconnect the ribbon cables using a plastic opening tool or spudger.

  • From the motherboard, remove the antenna cable located at the bottom right corner.

Avoid damaging the ribbon cables by lifting the motherboard slowly.

  • Use a spudger or tweezers to lift the top left corner of the motherboard.
  • Gently lift it out while keeping an eye on the ribbon cables for any signs of damage.
