LG Optimus 3D Rear Camera Replacement

Ensure your phone is powered down completely before starting any repair or disassembly procedure.

Step 1 | Back Cover Removal

Use your fingernail to pry the back cover from the phone, starting at the notch located at the bottom for added leverage.

Step 2 | Battery Removal

Locate the battery, positioned in the lower section of the phone, which resembles a large black rectangle.

Be cautious when handling the battery as it may be loose or slightly damaged.

  • Identify the semi-circular notch at the bottom edge of the battery.
  • Apply gentle pressure against and upwards on the battery to dislodge it from its resting position.

Step 3 | Screw Removal

Remove PH00 screws: 4 x short (4mm) and 5 x tall (9mm), as indicated in the provided picture.

  • Use a screwdriver to remove these screws from the phone body.

Step 4 | Bottom Cover Removal

Remove the bottom cover by gently pulling it downwards.

Step 5 | Mid-Cover Bezel Removal

Be cautious when prying around the perimeter, as the ribbons behind buttons and ports are delicate.

  • Use a plastic opening tool to gently pry along the edges of the device.
  • Avoid inserting the tool too deeply into the bezel to prevent damaging the ribbons.

Gently lift off the button covers, located under the Mid-Cover Bezel, and set them aside.

Step 6 | Ribbon Cable Disconnection

Disconnect the ribbon cable from the black SIM card board using a spudger or plastic opening tool.

Step 7 | Adhesive Loosening

Excessive heat may damage the device.

  • Apply high heat from a hair-dryer or low heat from a heat-gun to loosen the SD/SIM Card Board adhesive.
  • Heat for about one minute, in short intervals of up to 30 seconds at a time.

Step 8 | SD/SIM Card Board Removal

Use a flat tool to gently pry the board upwards, working around its edges.

  • Be sure to lift the small tab attached to the camera unit.
  • If separation is still difficult, reapply heat and try again.

Step 9 | Heat Adhesive

Use a heat gun on low setting or a hair dryer on high to heat the camera assembly in 20-30 second intervals.

  • Heat the camera assembly as described above, allowing it to cool between each interval.
  • The motherboard assembly does not need to be removed for camera removal.

Step 10 | Remove Camera Assembly

Use tweezers or a pry tool to gently wiggle and lift the camera assembly away from the phone body.

The motherboard does not need to be removed before removing the camera.
