LG Optimus 3D Motherboard Replacement

The motherboard is the primary circuit board responsible for integrating and communicating with various system components.

Step 1 | Back Cover Removal

  • Pry the back cover from the phone using your fingertip.
  • The notch located at the bottom provides additional leverage.

Step 2 | Battery Removal

Locate the battery at the bottom half of the phone, identified by a large black rectangle.

Be cautious of the semi-circular notch at the bottom edge of the battery.

  • Press against and up on the battery using your thumbs to pop it out.

Step 3 | Screw Removal

Remove nine screws from the phone as indicated by the circled areas in the reference image.

  • PH00 screws: Four 4mm long, and nine 5.5mm long.

Step 4 | Bottom Cover Removal

Pull down bottom cover gently to remove.

Step 5 | Mid-Cover Bezel Removal

Use a plastic opening tool to gently pry around the perimeter of the device.

Be cautious not to damage the delicate ribbons behind the buttons and ports, as running the tool too deep into the bezel can cause harm.

  • Remove the button covers that rest under the Mid-Cover Bezel.
  • Set the button covers aside for safekeeping.

Step 6 | Ribbon Cable Disconnection

Use a spudger or plastic opening tool to gently release the ribbon cable from the black SIM card board.

Step 7 | Adhesive Loosening

Never apply excessive heat, risk of damage.

  • Use a hair-dryer on high or heat-gun on low to loosen the adhesive.
  • Heat the device for short intervals (about 1 minute) in even sections.
  • Limit heating time to 30 seconds at a time to avoid overheating.

Step 8 | SD/SIM Card Board Removal

Prying force may damage the board or its connections.

  • Use a plastic spudger to gently pry up the main board from the adhesive.
  • Pry up the small tab connected to the camera unit as well.

If separation remains difficult, reapply heat and attempt again.

Step 9 | Disconnect Ribbon Cables

Use a spudger or plastic opening tool to gently lift the ribbon cables connected to the motherboard.

  • Adhesive tabs, highlighted in orange, are lightly attached; use a spudger to carefully pry them out of the phone's body.

Step 10 | Disconnect Antenna

Disconnect both ends of the antenna cable.

  • Release one end from the motherboard.
  • Separate the other end located at the phone's bottom.

Step 11 | Remove Motherboard

Use a spudger to gently lift the motherboard assembly out of the case.

Be careful not to snag the motherboard on the camera's ribbon cable.
