LG Optimus 3D MicroSD/SIM Card Board Replacement

The SD/SIM card board is a critical component that combines SD and SIM functionality and interfaces with the phone's internal circuits.

Step 1 | Back Cover Removal

  • Pry the back cover off using your fingernail
  • Use the notch at the bottom for better leverage.

Step 2 | Battery Removal

Locate the battery, identified by its large black rectangular shape near the lower portion of the phone.

Be cautious, as there may be internal components that can break if not careful.

Press against and upward on the battery, taking care to avoid the semi-circular notch at the bottom edge, until it is dislodged.

Step 3 | Screw Removal

Remove 13 screws from the phone, located at marked positions.

  • 9 x PH00 screws with a length of 5.5mm.
  • 4 x PH00 screws with a length of 4mm.

Step 4 | Bottom Cover Removal

Hold the bottom cover firmly in place with one hand, then gently pull downwards.

Step 5 | Mid-Cover Bezel Removal

Use a plastic opening tool to gently pry around the device's perimeter.

Be careful not to damage the delicate ribbons behind the buttons and ports by running the tool too deep into the bezel.

  • Remove the button covers from under the Mid-Cover Bezel and set aside.

Step 6 | Ribbon Cable Disconnection

Use a spudger or plastic opening tool to carefully release the ribbon cable connected to the SIM card board.

Step 7 | Adhesive Loosening

Do not apply excessive heat, as this may cause damage.

  • Apply moderate heat using a hair-dryer on high or a heat-gun on low to loosen the adhesive.
  • Heat for short intervals of about one minute.
  • Limit each heating session to 30 seconds or less to avoid overheating.

Step 8 | SD/SIM Card Board Removal

Heat the area around the board until the adhesive becomes pliable.

  • Pry gently upwards on the board using a plastic spudger to release it from the adhesive.
  • Be sure to also pry up the small tab connected to the camera unit.

If separation is still difficult, additional heating may be necessary.
