LG Optimus 3D Headphone Jack Replacement

Step 1 | Back Cover Removal

Locate the notch at the bottom of the phone and use it as a lever to pry the back cover off with your fingernail.

Step 2 | Battery Removal

The battery is located near the bottom of the phone, identifiable by its large size and black color.

  • Locate the semi-circular notch at the bottom edge of the battery.
  • Press against the notch and gently lift upwards to release the battery.

Step 3 | Screw Removal

Remove nine screws from the phone using a PH00 screwdriver.

  • Start with 6 x 9mm PH00 screws. Locate them according to the picture.
  • Next, remove 3 x 4mm PH00 screws.

Step 4 | Bottom Cover Removal

Grasp the bottom cover and gently pull it downwards to release.

Step 5 | Mid-Cover Bezel Removal

Use a plastic opening tool to pry around the device's perimeter.

Be cautious of the delicate ribbons behind buttons and ports; avoid applying too much pressure that could damage them.

  • Remove the Mid-Cover Bezel.
  • Take out the button covers from under the bezel and set aside.

Step 6 | Ribbon Cable Disconnection

Use a spudger or plastic opening tool to gently disconnect the ribbon cable from the SIM card board.

Step 7 | Adhesive Loosening

Preheat the device with a hair-dryer on high or a heat-gun on low, heating in short intervals of about one minute.

  • Heat for no more than 30 seconds at a time to prevent over-heating.
  • Use heat to loosen the adhesive holding down the SD/SIM Card Board.

Step 8 | SD/SIM Card Board Removal

Prying a stuck board without proper heat application can damage components.

  • Pry gently along the edges with a plastic spudger until the board is released from its adhesive.
  • Do not forget to release the small tab connected to the camera unit.
  • If separation remains difficult, apply additional heat before reattempting.

Step 9 | Disconnect Ribbon Cables

Use a spudger or plastic opening tool to gently lift the ribbon cables connected to the motherboard.

  • Lift out the button tabs with a spudger, working carefully around their light adhesive hold.

Step 10 | Disconnect Antenna

Disconnect both ends of the antenna cable.

  • Release the connector from the motherboard.
  • Remove the connector located at the bottom of the phone.

Step 11 | Remove Motherboard

Use a spudger to carefully remove the motherboard assembly from its housing.

  • Avoid the motherboard getting tangled with the camera's ribbon cable.

Step 12 | Ribbon Cable Disconnection

Disconnect the ribbon cable connected to the headphone jack assembly using a plastic opening tool.

Step 13 | Headphone Jack Removal

Remove the Headphone Jack by prying it gently away from the phone's body.
