LG K40S Fingerprint Scanner Replacement
The following steps will replace the fingerprint scanner in an LG K40S device.
Step 1 | Precautions
Do not open your phone with a battery level above 25% — risk of battery fire.
- Power down your phone by holding the power key, selecting 'Power Off', and confirming.
- Verify that the battery percentage is below 25% before proceeding with disassembly.
Step 2 | Removing SIM & SD Card trays
Use a SIM Eject tool, such as a bent paperclip, to eject the 2 SIM & SD Card trays.
- Eject the trays using gentle pressure on the card tray release button.
- The trays should now be partially ejected from the phone.
Step 3 | Removing back panel
Verify that the back panel is constructed of plastic to minimize risk of damage.
- Disengage the plastic clips using a plastic pick.
- Be cautious around the buttons to avoid damaging the adjacent flex cables.
Do not immediately pull the back panel completely, as this may damage the flex cable for the fingerprint scanner.
Step 4 | Disconnecting fingerprint scanner
Remove the back panel on the right-hand side, referring to image 1 for visual guidance.
- Disconnect the fingerprint scanner flex cable using a plastic pick or spudger.
- Pull the back panel away from the phone.
Step 5 | Removing fingerprint scanner from back panel
Remove the black tape covering the fingerprint scanner with your fingers or a plastic pick, taking care not to push too far.
Careful when pushing through the back panel to avoid damage.
- Pull the fingerprint scanner away from the back panel.
- Use a plastic pick to carefully unadhere the flex cable from the back panel.
