LG K40 Screen Assembly Replacement

The repair involves disassembling and reassembling several components, with the most challenging aspect being the numerous clips securing them in place.

Step 1 | Back Glass Removal Pt.1

Apply heat to the back of the device.

  • Pierce with a suitable opening pick, applying isopropyl alcohol as needed.
  • Start at the bottom edge and work your way around.

Complete any remaining loop or circuit.

  • Verify that all connections are secure and intact.

Step 4 | Adhesive Cleanup

Remove any residual adhesive from the back glass area.

  • Use a squeegee or adhesive scraper to gently remove excess adhesive.
  • Wipe clean with a soft cloth to prevent scratches.

Step 5 | Disconnecting the Fingerprint Sensor

  • Remove the back cover.
  • Apply pressure to both sides of the fingerprint scanner flex connector to release its clips.
  • Pull the back cover towards you and disconnect the fingerprint flex connector.

Remove 15 Phillips screws.

  • Start to disassemble the midframe. Note that additional clips hold it in place.

Locate and release all midframe clips using a pry tool.

  • Pry around the edges of the midframe until it separates.
  • Focus on releasing clips from their mounts to reduce prying effort.

Step 8 | Disconnecting the Flex Connectors Pt.1

Disconnect the battery connector.

  • Remove any cables connected to the motherboard.
  • Next, target the flex connectors and begin removal from one end.

Disconnect the display.

Step 10 | Remove Sim Tray

  • Remove the SIM tray.
  • You may use a SIM ejector, needle, paper clip, or other preferred ejector tool to facilitate removal.

Step 11 | Motherboard Removal

Removing the SIM tray before this step will facilitate motherboard removal.

  • Release the motherboard from its clips by moving around it.
  • Pull the motherboard upwards, away from the charge port.

Step 12 | A Brief Look at the Motherboard

The main component is a single motherboard with no additional daughterboards.

Step 13 | Battery Removal

Use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm up the front of the phone, loosening the battery adhesive.

  • Apply small amounts of isopropyl alcohol along the edges of the battery for easier removal.

Step 14 | Ear Speaker Removal

Avoid using alcohol, which can potentially damage the ear speaker.

  • Warm the front of the phone with a hair dryer to loosen adhesive under the ear speaker.

Step 15 | Vibrate Motor Removal

Remove the vibrate motor. It may still be warm from the previous heating process.

If it's not warm enough, use a hair dryer to reheat or apply alcohol to loosen any adhesive.
