LG K20 PLUS Display Assembly Replacement

Compare the display assembly from your old device with the new one to identify reusable components.

Step 1 | Remove the back cover and battery

  • Insert a fingernail or opening pick into the designated area to release the plastic clips.
  • Lift the battery up from its housing.

Step 2 | Midframe

Remove 11 Philips screws.

Insert an opening pick into the gap between the digitizer and midframe.

  • Pull the midframe outwards to disengage the plastic clips.
  • Disengage the clips at the bottom, near the headphone jack.
  • Move the midframe outwards and downwards to release it from the headphone jack.

Step 4 | Rear-Facing Camera

Use a Halberd spudger or an opening pick to gently pry the front camera flex away from its connector.

  • The connector is located on the motherboard.

Step 5 | Front Camera

Use a Halberd spudger or an opening pick to disconnect the front camera flex from its socket on the motherboard.

  • Pry between the front camera and its bracket with a Halberd spudger to remove it, taking care not to damage the adhesive.
  • If still having trouble, consider removing the motherboard for better access.

Step 6 | Motherboard Removal

Use a Halberd spudger or an opening pick to disconnect the display flex cable from the motherboard.

  • Insert an opening pick between the motherboard and frame, starting at the bottom.
  • Lever apart carefully, avoiding damage to the long section of the motherboard.

The top part of the motherboard may be lightly adhered to the frame.

  • After removal, compare the original and replacement display assemblies.
  • Some components on the replacement display assembly may already be installed.

Step 7 | Volume Buttons Removal

Fragile plastic tabs can break easily.

  • Insert the tip of a spudger into the gap between the volume button assembly and the frame.
  • Pry the plastic tabs gently upwards and outwards.

Step 8 | Removing the vibrator

Locate the vibrator motor, which is secured with adhesive.

  • Pry the vibrator motor gently upwards using a metal spudger inserted on its right side.

Step 9 | Ear Speaker Removal

Apply heat to soften the adhesive.

  • Insert a Jimmy between the flex cable and the frame, detaching the cable from the adhesive.
  • Use the tip of a metal spudger to carefully pry up the ear speaker from its housing.

Step 10 | Separating the Headphone Jack

Apply heat to soften the adhesive holding the headphone jack and flex cable.

  • Insert an opening pick near the flex cable attachment point to separate it from the frame.
  • Pry around the headphone jack with an opening pick to release its adhesion.

If only replacing the headphone jack, carefully remove it from the Kapton tape. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.

Step 11 | Transfer of Kapton tape and headphone jack

Transfer the Kapton tape to the new display assembly if necessary.

  • Apply heat to soften the adhesive under the bottom tab of the antenna contact cable.
  • Use an opening pick to gently pry the contact upwards.
