LG Grace Charging Port Replacement

Be cautious when handling batteries, as swollen ones can rupture and explode if improperly handled.

  • Power off your LG Grace (LGL59BL) smartphone before proceeding.
  • Consult a professional or someone trained in safely disposing of malfunctioning batteries if the battery is swollen or stuck.

Ensure you have basic soldering skills before starting this repair, as it requires soldering knowledge.

  • Remove the battery from your phone.
  • Diagnose and replace the faulty charging port, which is a relatively simple process with the necessary tools and replacement part.

Step 1 | Phone Assembly

Locate the recessed area along the edge of the phone's back.

  • Pry open the area using a nail, or use a pry tool if you have short nails.

Remove the battery by prying it out from its recessed location in the back of the phone.

  • Pry gently using the small indent provided, or
  • Flip the phone over and strike it against your palm to dislodge the battery.

  • Remove the back panel by unscrewing the 11 visible screws with a #00 Phillips screwdriver.
  • The screws are M1.3 x 3 mm.

Insert Jimmy into the gap between phone screen and body.

  • Pry gently until it pops loose.
  • Remove Jimmy.
  • Pry body away from screen with your hands.

Step 5 | Rear Camera

Identify the camera's pin connector, marked by a red box in the diagram.

  • Gently pry the camera module upwards, also pulling it away from its socket.
  • The camera should detach easily with minimal force required.

Step 6 | Motherboard

Remove the front speaker from the motherboard.

  • Gently pull the ribbon wire away from the connector, similar to the camera's ribbon cable.

Step 7

Identify the ribbon cable attached to the board via the charging port.

  • Pull the cable away from the board in a gentle manner.

Be cautious not to damage the cable or its connector.

Step 8

Hold the phone firmly in one hand and grasp the motherboard edge near the ports with the other.

  • Lift the motherboard gently, keeping it aligned with the screen assembly.
  • Pull the motherboard away from the screen assembly to remove it.

Step 9 | Charging Port

Flip the motherboard over to expose the solder connections.

  • Identify the solder points by their flat, exposed bits on the back of the board.
  • Use caution when handling hot solder joints.

  • Heat the solder until it melts, then quickly remove the component from the board.

Clean and reapply fresh solder to ensure secure connections after replacing the component.
