Risk of damaging the fingerprint sensor cable when prying on the left side of the sensor.

  • Locate the clearance between the panel and the fingerprint sensor cable.
  • Pry to the left side of the fingerprint sensor, avoiding the sensitive area shown in the third photo.
  • Insert an opening tool no deeper than 3 mm into the phone to prevent damage or tearing of the cable.

Step 2

Heating the backside of the device may cause damage if not done properly.

  • Apply heat to the lower edge of the G6 using a hairdryer, heat gun, or an iOpener for about a minute.
  • The adhesive will begin to soften, making it easier to remove the rear panel.

Step 3

Attach a suction cup to the rear panel, positioning it near the heated edge.

Step 4

Prop up the heated phone edge on a 0.5-inch (13 mm) thick object like an eraser for easier access.

  • Alternatively, perform this step at the desk/table edge if no propping object is available.

A significant amount of force may be required; apply more heat as needed to soften adhesive and try again.

  • Lift the rear panel's bottom edge with a suction cup, creating a slight gap between panel and frame.
  • Insert the flat end of an opening tool into the gap once created.

Avoid applying excessive force or using metal tools to pry, which can cause the rear glass panel to break.

Step 5

Insert an opening pick into the gap between the phone's rear glass and the frame.

  • Use a strong spudger or similar tool to cut along the bottom edge of the phone, prying up the rear glass panel from its adhesive.

  • Once the adhesive is partially cut, carefully insert an opening pick into the gap to prevent re-bonding. Remove the spudger.

Step 6

Reapply heat to each edge as needed before slicing.

  • Use multiple opening picks for this process.
  • Leave one pick in place on each side after finishing to prevent re-adhesion.

Slide the opening pick along the left edge of the phone to slice through the rear panel adhesive.

Locate the fingerprint reader cable near the camera.

Be careful when cutting through adhesive at the top edge.

  • Slide an opening pick across the top edge to separate the final adhesive holding the rear glass panel.

  • Remove the panel.

Step 10

Residual adhesive may compromise phone's water resistance.

  • Use tweezers to remove remaining adhesive from rear panel and chassis.
  • Clean adhesion areas with 90% isopropyl alcohol and lint-free cloth, swiping in one direction only.

Test phone's functionality before reapplying adhesive.

  • Peel away replacement adhesive liner, align it with back of phone, and press into place.
  • Remove any remaining liners and reinstall rear glass panel.
  • Apply strong pressure to phone for several minutes to help adhesive bond, such as under heavy books.

Reinstalling without new adhesive may compromise water resistance.

  • Remove large chunks of old adhesive preventing rear panel from sitting flush.
  • Heat the panel and apply pressure to secure it in place.

Step 11 | Battery Disconnect
