This guide covers removal of the USB-C port and associated microphone board from the LG G6.
Be extremely careful when cutting through adhesive near the fingerprint sensor to avoid damaging the fragile ribbon cable.
When cutting near the left side of the fingerprint sensor (from outside the phone), use an opening tool with less than 3 mm insertion to prevent damage to the sensor cable.
Apply heat to the backside of the G6 using a hairdryer, heat gun, or an iOpener, focusing on the lower edge.
Be cautious not to apply too much heat, which may damage internal components.
Wait about a minute for the adhesive to soften before proceeding.
Mount a suction cup on the rear panel, near the heated edge.
Prop up the heated edge on a 0.5-inch thick object like an eraser for easier access.
Apply significant force to lift rear panel's bottom edge with suction cup.
Rear glass panel is fragile and prone to breakage from excessive force or metal prying.
Insert an opening pick into the gap along the bottom edge of the phone.
Do not remove the opening pick yet, as it helps prevent the adhesive from re-bonding.
Apply heat to each edge if necessary before slicing.
Slide an opening pick along the left edge to slice the adhesive securing the rear panel.
Slide the opening pick up the right edge of the phone, cutting through the adhesive.
Locate the fingerprint reader cable near the camera and prepare to cut through the adhesive on the upper edge.
Use an opening pick to gently pry up the rear glass panel.
Reusing the rear glass panel requires extra care.
Test your repair before installing new adhesive.
For best results, apply strong pressure for several minutes.
Remove the four Phillips screws securing the lower antenna shield.
Use a spudger to carefully pry up the lower antenna shield
Remove all seven Phillips screws securing the upper antenna shield.
Insert flat-end spudger into gap between upper antenna shield & phone chassis.
The motherboard must be removed last, so do not skip this step!
Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully lift up both press connectors located at the bottom end of the motherboard, situated above the USB-C port.
Remove the sticker securing the motherboard to the vibration motor.
