This guide will walk you through removing or replacing the LG G6 motherboard.

Step 1 | Rear Glass Panel

Be extremely cautious when cutting through adhesive near the fingerprint sensor to avoid damaging its delicate cable.

  • Consult the first photo for reference on the rear glass panel's backside, noting the clearance between the panel and the ribbon cable beside the fingerprint sensor.
  • Pry carefully, aiming for the left side of the fingerprint sensor as shown in the third photo from the outside.
  • Avoid inserting an opening tool more than 3 mm into the phone in this area to prevent damage or tearing the fingerprint sensor cable.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Apply heat to the backside of the G6 using a hairdryer, heat gun, or an iOpener to loosen the adhesive holding the rear panel in place.

  • Target the lower edge of the device and maintain heat for about a minute to effectively soften the adhesive.

Step 3

Secure a suction cup to the rear panel, near the heated edge.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Careful not to apply excessive force, as the rear glass panel is fragile.

  • Prop up the phone's heated edge on a 0.5 inches (13 mm) thick object like an eraser to angle for easier tool insertion.
  • If no prop available, perform at desk/table edge with caution to achieve same angle of entry.

Significant force may be required; if stuck, reapply heat, let cool slightly, and try again.

  • Lift rear panel's bottom edge with suction cup, creating a gap between panel and frame.
  • Insert flat end of opening tool into the gap once a slight gap is created.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Slide a opening tool back and forth along the phone's bottom edge to cut through the adhesive.

  • The adhesive should be completely broken once a suitable gap has formed.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap to prevent re-bonding, then remove the tool.

Apply heat to each edge as needed before slicing.

  • Use multiple opening picks, leaving one on each side after finishing.
  • Slide an opening pick along the left phone edge to slice the adhesive.

Use an opening pick to carefully lift the rear glass panel.

  • Continue prying until the panel is completely removed.

Step 10

Step 10 image

When reusing the rear glass panel, use tweezers to remove remaining adhesive from both the panel and chassis.

Clean adhesion areas with at least 90% isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth, swiping only in one direction.

  • Test your repair by turning on your phone before installing new adhesive.
  • Peel liner from replacement adhesive, align it with the back of the phone, and press into place.
  • Remove all liners and reattach rear glass panel.

Apply strong pressure to your phone for several minutes after installing rear panel, or use a stack of heavy books.

  • If reinstalling without replacing adhesive, remove large chunks that may prevent flush fit.
  • After installation, heat the panel and apply pressure for a secure hold.

Note: Phone will not be waterproof if using residual adhesive alone.
