Clean the microwave before proceeding to prevent gunk from adhering to the iOpener.

  • Position the iOpener in the center of the microwave.
  • For carousel microwaves: Ensure the plate spins freely to avoid overheating and damage.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Risk of explosion: Do not heat above 100 °C (212 °F).

Heat the iOpener in the microwave for 30 seconds.

  • Reheat as needed, for up to 10 minutes total usage time.
  • If swollen, do not touch the iOpener.
  • It is heated enough when just too hot to touch lightly with your skin.

Continue using while waiting for it to cool down if still too hot in the middle.

Step 3

Step 3 image

The iOpener will be extremely hot after heating in the microwave.

  • Remove the iOpener from the microwave, holding one of the flat ends to avoid the hot center.
  • Use an oven mitt if necessary when handling the iOpener.

Step 4 | Alternate iOpener heating method

Do not expose yourself to steam or scalding water.

  • Fill a pot with enough boiling water to fully submerge an iOpener.
  • Turn off the heat and carefully place an iOpener into the hot water for 2-3 minutes.
  • Use tongs to extract the heated iOpener from the water.
  • Dry the iOpener thoroughly with a towel.

The iOpener will be very hot; handle it only by the end tabs.

The heated iOpener is now ready for use. To reheat, repeat the process.

Continue heating and cutting around the rest of the phone, working in sections to avoid applying too much pressure.

  • Apply a new opening pick to each side as you complete one section before moving on to the next.
  • This will help prevent the adhesive from resealing and ensure access to all areas of the phone.
