This repair guide is for replacing the cameras in an LG G6 device.
Careful handling is required when cutting through adhesive to avoid damaging the fingerprint sensor cable.
Do not insert an opening tool more than 3 mm into this area to avoid damaging or tearing the fingerprint sensor cable.
Heat the backside of the G6 for 1 minute using a hairdryer, a heat gun, or an iOpener.
Be careful not to apply too much heat, which can cause damage.
Attach a suction cup to the rear panel, near the heated edge.
Prop up the heated phone edge using an object at least 0.5 inches (13 mm) thick, like an eraser.
Apply significant force to lift the rear panel's bottom edge with your suction cup.
Slide the opening tool back and forth across the bottom edge of the phone.
Reapply heat to each edge if necessary for easier removal.
Be cautious when cutting through adhesive on the upper edges.
Use an opening pick to carefully pry up the rear glass panel.
When reusing the rear glass panel, ensure you properly clean and prepare the surfaces for new adhesive.
Test your repair before installing new adhesive by turning on your phone.
Apply strong, steady pressure to secure the rear glass panel after installation, such as by placing it under a stack of heavy books for several minutes.
Alternatively, you can reinstall the rear panel without replacing the adhesive, but ensure it sits down flush. Remove any large chunks of adhesive.
After installation, heat the panel and apply pressure to secure it; note that the phone will not be waterproof, but residual adhesive is usually sufficient for holding the panel in place.
Remove the four Phillips screws securing the lower antenna shield.
Be aware that removing this sticker does not void your warranty, as it was never valid in the first place.
Insert spudger tip into small gap between antenna shield and metal frame.
Remove the seven Phillips screws securing the upper antenna shield.
Insert the flat end of a spudger into the small gap between the upper antenna shield and the phone chassis.
Disconnect the battery by prying up its press connector with a spudger at the end of its ribbon cable.
Do not proceed without removing the SIM/MicroSD tray — motherboard removal impossible.
Use the flat end of a plastic spudger to carefully lift up the two press connectors at the bottom end of the motherboard above the USB-C port.
Disconnect the motherboard sticker from the vibration motor.
Hold the motherboard at the top, near the camera module, and carefully lift it upwards.
Disconnect both rear-facing and front-facing camera connectors from the motherboard.
