This repair guide is for replacing the cameras in an LG G6 device.

Step 1 | Rear Glass Panel

Careful handling is required when cutting through adhesive to avoid damaging the fingerprint sensor cable.

  • Refer to the first photo for an illustration of the rear glass panel's backside, including its clearance from the ribbon cable.
  • Pry carefully on the left side of the fingerprint sensor as viewed from outside the phone (third photo).

Do not insert an opening tool more than 3 mm into this area to avoid damaging or tearing the fingerprint sensor cable.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Heat the backside of the G6 for 1 minute using a hairdryer, a heat gun, or an iOpener.

Be careful not to apply too much heat, which can cause damage.

Step 3

Attach a suction cup to the rear panel, near the heated edge.

Step 4

Prop up the heated phone edge using an object at least 0.5 inches (13 mm) thick, like an eraser.

  • If no propping object is available, carefully perform this step near a desk or table for easier access.

Apply significant force to lift the rear panel's bottom edge with your suction cup.

  1. Heat the adhesive repeatedly if necessary to create a gap between the panel and frame.
  2. Press the flat end of an opening tool into the created gap carefully, avoiding excessive force or metal tools that may damage the rear glass panel.

Step 5

Slide the opening tool back and forth across the bottom edge of the phone.

  • Continue until you cut through the adhesive securing the rear glass panel.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap to prevent re-bonding.
  • Remove the opening tool.

Reapply heat to each edge if necessary for easier removal.

  • Apply multiple opening picks and leave one in place on each side after slicing.
  • Slide an opening pick along the left edge of the phone to slice through the adhesive.

Use an opening pick to carefully pry up the rear glass panel.

  • Continue prying until the panel comes free.
  • Set the panel aside for later reinstallation.

Step 10

Step 10 image

When reusing the rear glass panel, ensure you properly clean and prepare the surfaces for new adhesive.

  • Use tweezers to remove remaining adhesive from the rear panel and phone chassis.
  • Clean adhesion areas with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth, swiping in one direction only.

Test your repair before installing new adhesive by turning on your phone.

  • Peel away the replacement adhesive's liner and align it with the back of the phone.
  • Press the adhesive into place, then remove any remaining liners.

Apply strong, steady pressure to secure the rear glass panel after installation, such as by placing it under a stack of heavy books for several minutes.

Alternatively, you can reinstall the rear panel without replacing the adhesive, but ensure it sits down flush. Remove any large chunks of adhesive.

After installation, heat the panel and apply pressure to secure it; note that the phone will not be waterproof, but residual adhesive is usually sufficient for holding the panel in place.

Step 11 | Battery Disconnect

Remove the four Phillips screws securing the lower antenna shield.

  • Set aside the removed screws and shield for reassembly.
  • Be aware that removing this sticker does not void your warranty, as it was never valid in the first place.

Step 12

Insert spudger tip into small gap between antenna shield and metal frame.

  • Pry up antenna shield gently.
  • Remove antenna shield from phone.

Do not proceed without removing the SIM/MicroSD tray — motherboard removal impossible.

  • Insert a SIM removal tool or SIM removal bit into the hole opposite the volume buttons and press to release the SIM/MicroSD card tray.
  • Remove the SIM/MicroSD tray.
