LG G6 Battery Replacement

For your safety, always discharge your LG G6 battery below 25% before disassembly to prevent potential thermal risks.

  • Follow this guide for replacement instructions.
  • If the battery is swollen, take necessary precautions to avoid injury.

Step 1 | Rear Glass Panel

Avoid damaging the fragile ribbon cable beside the fingerprint sensor when cutting through adhesive.

  • Reference the first photo to locate the clearance between the edge of the panel and the fingerprint sensor's cable.
  • When slicing and prying, be cautious of the area around the left side of the fingerprint sensor (as seen from outside the phone in the third photo).
  • Avoid inserting an opening tool more than 3 mm into this area to prevent damaging or tearing the fingerprint sensor cable.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Apply gentle heat to the backside of the device for 1 minute.

  • Use a hairdryer, heat gun, or an iOpener applied to the lower edge of the G6.
  • This will soften the adhesive securing the rear panel.

Step 3

Position a suction cup near the heated edge on the rear panel.

Be cautious when handling the phone's rear glass panel — it may be prone to breakage.

  • Prop up the heated phone using an object at least 0.5 inches (13 mm) thick, such as an eraser, to create a suitable angle for tool insertion.
  • If no prop is available, perform this step near the edge of a table or desk to achieve the desired angle.

Lift the rear panel's bottom edge with your suction cup to create a gap between the panel and frame.

  • Be prepared to apply significant force — if needed, reheat the adhesive and try again.
  • The adhesive cools quickly; repeat heating as necessary.

Use a flat opening tool carefully to avoid applying excessive pressure, which may cause the rear glass panel to break.

Step 5

Slide a credit card or similar tool back and forth across the bottom edge of the phone.

  • Continue until the adhesive is cut and a wide enough gap forms to insert an opening pick.
  • Insert the pick into the gap to prevent re-bonding, then remove the tool.

Step 6

Re-apply heat to each edge as needed.

  • Leave an opening pick in place on each side after finishing one edge.

Slide an opening pick along the left edge of the phone to slice through the adhesive securing the rear panel.

Insert the opening pick at the bottom edge of the phone.

  • Slide the pick upwards along the right edge of the phone.
  • Cut through the remaining adhesive to release the phone's casing.

Step 8

Locate the fingerprint reader cable running leftward from the camera.

  • Be cautious cutting through adhesive near the upper edges.
  • Opening pick: Slide it along the top edge to separate remaining adhesive.

Step 9

  • Pry up the rear glass panel using an opening pick.
  • Remove the panel once it's loose.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Reusing rear glass may compromise water resistance.

  • Peel away remaining adhesive with tweezers from panel and chassis.
  • Clean adhesion areas with 90% isopropyl alcohol and lint-free cloth, swiping one direction only.

Verify phone function before reapplying adhesive.

  • Peel replacement liner, align, and press new adhesive into place.
  • Remove remaining liners, replace rear glass panel.
  • Apply strong pressure for several minutes to secure adhesive bond (e.g., under heavy books).

Water resistance may be compromised if adhesive is not replaced. However, you can reinstall the rear panel without new adhesive:

  • Remove large chunks of adhesive that prevent flush installation.
  • Heat panel and apply pressure to secure it.

Step 11 | Battery Disconnect

  • Remove the four Phillips screws securing the lower antenna shield.
  • The Warranty Void If Removed sticker does not require removal for this repair.

Insert the tip of a spudger into the small gap between the lower antenna shield and the metal frame.

  • Pry up the antenna shield gently.
  • Remove it from the phone.

Insert the flat end of a spudger into the gap between the upper antenna shield and the phone chassis.

  • Pry up, releasing the clips holding the shield in place.
  • Remove the upper antenna shield and wireless charging coil.

Disconnect the battery by prying up the press connector at the end of its ribbon cable using a spudger.

Step 16 | Battery

Use tweezers to lift the blue pull tab at the bottom of the battery.

Do not apply excessive force as this may cause damage and risk fire or explosion.

  • Firmly grasp the blue tab and pull directly upwards to lift the battery out of the phone.
  • Avoid using metal tools or applying pressure that may deform the battery, causing potential leaks or fires from soft-shell lithium-ion batteries.

Step 18

Step 18 image

Beware: Adhesive can damage batteries.

  • Apply heat using an iOpener to the screen opposite the battery for 2-3 minutes.
  • Apply isopropyl alcohol or adhesive remover along the bottom of the battery and wait 2-3 minutes.
  • Use a spudger to carefully slice through the adhesive, then lift the battery out.

New batteries only: Discard deformed batteries. Clean any residual adhesive from the phone and secure with Tesa tape.
