LG G5 Screen Replacement

Damage to the phone's internal components can occur if not done carefully.

  • Pry the screen out of the phone using a suitable tool.
  • Unscrew the motherboard screws.
  • Disconnect the screen tether connector from the motherboard.

Pull the phone out of its body while simultaneously pressing the battery release button.

  • Grip the battery release button firmly and locate it on your device.
  • Using a gentle but firm motion, pull the bottom end of the phone away from the body.

  • Insert the sim card eject tool (0.8mm sim card eject head) into the small hole on the sim card tray.
  • Press inward with some force, taking care not to damage the surrounding area.

  • Pull the sim card tray out of the phone.

Remove the two 5.5mm Phillips #00 screws from the base of the phone.

Insert the plastic opening tool into the seam between the glass screen and the metal body.

  • Pry the glass from the body a small amount, taking care not to apply too much pressure.

  • Nylon Spudger insertion: Insert spudger into space between body and screen.
  • Push inward to increase separation.
  • Slowly slide nylon spudger up edge of phone until screen detaches.
  • Ensure correct alignment before pushing screen back into place.

    • Press edges down from top to bottom, using gentle force to seat the screen securely.

Separate the screen from the body.

  • Pry the screen away from the body.
  • The two parts should be completely disconnected.

Remove the six 2.7mm Phillips screws using a #00 Philips head.

  • There are six screws in total.
  • Screws have a diameter of 2.7mm.

Insert plastic opening tool between screen-ribbon-connector and motherboard, and gently pull upwards.

Remove all screws holding the screen in place.

  • Carefully pry the screen away from the motherboard.
  • Disconnect any remaining cables or connectors between the screen and motherboard.

Transfer the earpiece from the old screen to the new screen, as you won't be able to hear calls otherwise.

Do not use force with a pair of tweezers, as this can damage the earpiece.

  • Instead, carefully use a pick to wedge it out.
  • Beware that the adhesive attached to it is easily removable.

  • Remove the earpiece casing from the old screen by carefully popping it out with a pair of tweezers.
  • Earpiece casing on new screen: Place down first and ensure locked in place. Add earpiece on top, then gently push down until secure.
