LG G3 Screen Assembly Replacement

This guide is for replacing a broken or worn-out screen assembly with midframe in LG G3 (D855) devices, showing how to swap the entire assembly including midframe and transfer components like vibration motor, cameras, and earpiece speaker during repair. Alternatively, if you only want to replace the LCD without midframe, follow this guide.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Power off the device before starting disassembly.

  • Insert a thumbnail or a spudger into the notch at the bottom left of the back cover.
  • Pry the back cover upwards to release its plastic clips.

Remove the back cover to release all plastic clips.

  • If stuck, use your fingernail or prying tool to release remaining clips along midframe.
  • To reinstall: press firmly until you hear a snap indicating secure connection.

Step 3 | Battery

Insert a fingernail or prying tool into the marked notch.

  • Lever the battery gently out of its recess.

Remove the battery from its compartment.

Step 5 | Loudspeaker

Remove the four #00 Phillips screws, each 4mm in length.

Insert a thumbnail or spudger into the notch at the bottom left of the back cover.

  • Pry up the plastic panel, including the loudspeaker, until you have a good grip.

Gently pull the plastic panel, including the loudspeaker, away from the phone assembly.

Step 8 | Motherboard Cover Assembly

Remove the Phillips #00 screws, 8 in total. Each screw is 4mm long.

Be careful not to damage the motherboard or clips.

  • Insert an opening pick between the motherboard cover and the motherboard.
  • Pry up the motherboard cover, working your way along the right edge. The plastic clips may be resistive.
  • If needed, slightly rotate the opening pick sideways to ease prying.

Locate and carefully lift the right edge of the motherboard cover.

  • The plastic clips will likely release, or they can be easily unhinged manually.
  • Once cleared, remove the entire motherboard assembly.

Step 11 | Motherboard

Disconnect the display flex cable by gently prying it loose with a spudger.

Use a spudger to gently pry up and release the digitizer flex cable.

  • Pry at one end of the cable.
  • Gently rock the spudger back and forth as you push the cable away from the device.

Disconnect the rear camera flex cable by prying it loose with a spudger.

Use a spudger to gently pry up and release the front camera flex cable.

Slowly rotate the opening pick while prying the motherboard from its recess, starting with the bottom right corner.

  • Avoid damaging the disconnected flex cables.
  • Slide the opening pick under the bottom right corner of the motherboard.

Insert the opening pick under the right edge of the motherboard, near the SIM card slot. Rotate the opening pick sideways to pry the motherboard up.

Grasp the motherboard's top section securely.

Lift upwards, being cautious not to damage any components.

Step 18 | Screen Assembly

Apply a iOpener to the top end of the screen and heat it until the adhesive is loosened.

Remove the earpiece speaker along with its attached foam gasket.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to grasp and pull out the earpiece speaker.

Remove the front camera using a pair of tweezers.

Reapply the iOpener to soften the adhesive.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to remove the rear camera.

Insert one tweezer arm under the vibration motor and gently pry it upwards.

  • Once loose, remove the vibration motor.

Apply heat from a iOpener to the bottom edge of the screen for 2-3 minutes.

Remove the headphone jack using the pointed end of a spudger.

  • Use a tweezers to grasp and remove the headphone jack.

Remove the daughterboard using a pair of tweezers.

Be careful not to damage surrounding components.

Compare your new replacement part to the original part.

  • Transfer any remaining components from the old part to the new one if necessary.
  • Remove any adhesive backings from the new part.
