LG G3 Power & Volume Button Cable Replacement

This repair guide will help you replace the power and volume flex cables on an LG G3 smartphone.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Power off your phone.

  • Insert a thumbnail or spudger into the notch at the bottom left of the back cover.
  • Pry the back cover up to separate its plastic clips.

Remove the back cover by lifting it up to release all plastic clips.

If partially stuck, use your fingernail or prying tool to loosen remaining clips around the midframe.

  • Press the back cover firmly into place until you hear a snap from the plastic clips.

Step 3 | Battery

Insert a fingernail or a prying tool into the marked notch.

Apply gentle pressure to lever the battery out of its recess.

Remove the battery from its housing.

Step 5 | Loudspeaker

Remove four Phillips #00 screws, 4 mm in length.

Insert a thumbnail or prying tool (spudger) into the notch at the bottom left of the back cover.

  • Pry up the plastic panel, including the loudspeaker, until you get a good grip.

Remove the plastic panel, including the loudspeaker, by gently pulling it away from the phone assembly.

Step 8 | Motherboard Cover Assembly

Remove the eight Phillips #00 screws, each 4 mm in length.

Insert an opening pick between the bottom right corner of the motherboard cover and the motherboard.

  • Pry up the motherboard cover with the opening pick, opening the plastic clips that hold it in place.
  • If necessary, slightly rotate the pick sideways to loosen the clips and make prying easier.

Be careful not to apply too much pressure on the motherboard or its components.

Lift the right edge of the motherboard cover carefully.

  • The plastic clips should open during this process, or can be unhinged by hand.
  • Remove the motherboard assembly.

Step 11 | Power & Volume Button Flex Cable

Remove the last screw securing the rear camera lens to the frame.

  • Use a plastic spudger to carefully pry out the camera lens.

Use your spudger to gently release the power and volume button flex from its adhesive.

Remove the flex.
