LG G3 Motherboard Cover Assembly Replacement

This guide is for removing or replacing the motherboard cover assembly on the LG G3 (D855) model.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Power off your phone.

  • Insert a thumbnail or a prying tool like a spudger into the notch at the bottom left of the back cover.
  • Pry the back cover up to separate its plastic clips.

Remove the back cover by lifting it.

If stuck, use fingernail or prying tool on midframe to release remaining clips.

  • Press back cover firmly into place and listen for a snap from the plastic clips.
  • The back cover should now be securely attached with a seamless connection.

Step 3 | Battery

Locate the notch on the battery housing and insert a fingernail or a prying tool. Gently pry the battery outward from its recess.

Remove the battery from its recess.

Step 5 | Loudspeaker

Remove four Phillips #00 screws, each 4 mm in length.

Insert a thumbnail or a prying tool like a spudger into the notch at the bottom left of the back cover.

Pry up the plastic panel, including the loudspeaker, until you have a good grip.

Remove the plastic panel and loudspeaker by gently pulling them away from the phone assembly.

Step 8 | Motherboard Cover Assembly

Remove the eight Phillips #00 screws with 4 mm length.

Insert an opening pick between the bottom right corner of the motherboard cover and the motherboard.

  • Pry up the motherboard cover to open the plastic clips which hold it in place.
  • The clips can be a bit resistive. If you're having trouble, slightly rotate the opening pick sideways to make the process easier.
  • Work your way along the right edge.

Lift the motherboard cover from its right edge.

  • The plastic clips will either open naturally or release easily by hand.
  • Once detached, carefully remove the motherboard assembly.
