LG G3 LCD and Digitizer Replacement

The LG G3 Fused Display Digitizer sold here does not include the support frame. Follow a different guide if your replacement part contains the frame.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Power off your phone before starting.

    thumbnail or a prying tool like a spudger into the notch at the bottom left of the back cover.
  • Pry the back cover up to separate its plastic clips.

Remove the back cover by lifting it upwards.

If stuck, use your fingernail or prying tool to release remaining clips along the midframe.

  • To reinstall: Press the back cover firmly into place until you hear a snap from the plastic clips.

Step 3 | Battery

Insert a fingernail or a prying tool into the marked notch.

Gently lever the battery out of its recess.

Remove the battery from its recess.

Step 5 | Loudspeaker

Remove the Phillips #00 screws located at the device's edges. Each screw has a 4 mm length.

Insert a thumbnail or a plastic spudger into the notch at the bottom left of the removed back cover.

  • Pry up the plastic panel, including the loudspeaker, until you can get a good grip.

Remove the plastic panel, which includes the loudspeaker, by gently pulling it away from the phone assembly.

Step 8 | Motherboard Cover Assembly

Remove the eight Phillips #00 screws, each 4 mm in length.

Insert an opening pick between the bottom right corner of the motherboard cover and the motherboard.

  • Pry up the motherboard cover to open the plastic clips.
  • The clips may be resistive; rotate the pick sideways if needed for easier removal.
  • Work your way along the right edge of the device.

Lift the right edge of the motherboard cover.

Clips may release automatically; if not, gently pry them open with your fingers.

  • Once clips are removed, lift out the motherboard assembly.

Step 11 | Motherboard

Disconnect the display flex cable by prying it loose with a spudger.

Disconnect the digitizer flex cable using a spudger.

Use a spudger to carefully pry up and disconnect the rear camera flex cable.

Disconnect the front camera flex cable using a spudger.

Be careful not to damage the flex cables in this area.

  • Insert an opening pick under the bottom right corner of the motherboard and slowly rotate it sideways.
  • The goal is to pry the motherboard out of its recess without causing any damage.

Insert the opening pick under the right edge of the motherboard, near the SIM card slot. Rotate the pick sideways to pry the motherboard up.

Lift the motherboard by its top section.

Careful not to touch any components, as damage may occur.

Step 18 | LCD and Digitizer

Careful when removing the metal tape. We can reuse it later.

  • Get a plastic opening tool under the right-hand side and corners of the metal tape.
  • SLOWLY work your way off the metal tape, revealing the ribbon cables connected to the screen.

Use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive around the sides if you wish to preserve the LCD screen.

  • Insert a thin tool, such as a knife, between the screen and body of the phone.
  • Create some space with the knife before removing it and introducing the plastic opening tool.
  • Work the plastic opening tool up and down each side while gently pulling upwards to remove the screen.
  • Be cautious when using the plastic opening tool, as excessive depth or force may damage the LCD screen.

Remove old adhesive from the body and replace it with new to secure a replacement screen in place.

Do not forget to transfer the front speaker grille from the old screen, as it may be missing from the new one.

  • If the grille is available, simply attach it to the new LCD screen.
  • Otherwise, carefully push the grille out from the old screen using a plastic tool or your fingers.
  • Reinsert the grille onto the new LCD screen in its original position.
