LG G3 Front Facing Camera Replacement

The front-facing camera might be faulty, but it's also possible that a loose ribbon cable is causing issues.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Power down your device.

  • Insert a thumbnail or a spudger into the notch at the bottom left corner of the back cover.
  • Pry the back cover upward to release its plastic clips.

Remove the back cover by lifting it and releasing any remaining plastic clips.

  • If the back cover won't lift, use your nail or prying tool to release stuck clips around the midframe.

Make sure the back cover snaps into place securely.

  • Press the back cover firmly onto the phone until you hear a snap from the plastic clips.

Step 3 | Battery

Apply pressure to the marked notch with a fingernail or a prying tool.

  • Lever the battery out of its recess.

Remove the battery from its compartment.

Step 5 | Loudspeaker

Remove the four Phillips #00 screws, each 4mm in length.

Insert a thumbnail or plastic spudger into the notch at the bottom left of the back cover.

  • Pry up the plastic panel, including the loudspeaker, until you get a good grip.

Remove the plastic panel and loudspeaker together, gently prying them away from the phone assembly.

Step 8 | Motherboard Cover Assembly

Remove the eight Phillips #00 screws, each 4 mm in length.

Insert an opening pick between the bottom right corner of the motherboard cover and the motherboard.

  • Pry up the motherboard cover using the opening pick to open the plastic clips.
  • The clips may be resistive; if needed, slightly rotate the opening pick sideways for assistance.
  • Continue working along the right edge of the motherboard cover.

Locate the motherboard cover and carefully lift its right edge.

  • The associated plastic clips will likely open during this action.
  • Alternatively, they can be released by hand if not opening easily.
  • Once the clips are open, proceed to remove the motherboard assembly.

Step 11 | Front Facing Camera

Verify that the ribbon cable is properly attached.

  • If not, reconnect and test if the front-facing camera works correctly.
  • Otherwise:
    • Pry under the ribbon cable connection with a plastic opening tool.
    • Gently lift up to release the ribbon cable.

Identify and disconnect the remaining three ribbon cable connectors from the motherboard.

  • Release each connector by gently sliding it towards you.
  • Once disconnected, label or arrange them for easy identification during reassembly.

Remove the motherboard by lifting it gently.

  • Be careful not to damage the ribbon cables, as this may cause other components to malfunction.

Damage to the ribbon cables can result in non-functioning of other components.

Be cautious when removing the front-facing camera as excessive force can cause it to launch across the room.

  • Insert the plastic opening tool into the sides and under the ribbon cable of the front-facing camera.
  • Lift up carefully to separate from adhesive, taking time and gentle effort if necessary.

Step 15

Disconnect the front-facing camera cable.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to gently remove the old camera module from its housing.
  • Remove any remaining adhesive or clips holding the old camera in place.
