LG G3 Earpiece Replacement

This repair is specific to the LG G3 (D855) model only.

  • Refer to this guide for step-by-step instructions.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Power off your phone and disconnect all power sources.

  • Insert a thumbnail or a spudger into the notch at the bottom left of the back cover.
  • Pry carefully to avoid damaging the clips — risk of cracking the casing.

    Pry the back cover up to separate its plastic clips.

Remove the back cover to release all remaining plastic clips.

  • If the back cover won't lift completely, use your fingernail or prying tool to loosen the midframe clips.

Do not force the back cover on, as this may damage it.

  • To reinstall, press the back cover firmly into place until you hear a snap from the plastic clips.

Step 3 | Battery

At the marked notch, use a fingernail or a prying tool to lever the battery out.

Remove the battery from its recess.

  • Lift the battery out of its compartment.
  • Once free, carefully set the battery aside.

Step 5 | Loudspeaker

Remove the Phillips #00 screws, 4 in total. Each screw is 4mm long.

  • Use a suitable driver to avoid damaging the screw heads.
  • Remove all four screws for access to the internal components.

Insert a thumbnail or a plastic spudger into the notch at the bottom left of the back cover.

  • Pry up the plastic panel, including the loudspeaker, until you can get a good grip.

Remove the plastic panel, which includes the loudspeaker, by gently pulling it away from the phone assembly.

Step 8 | Motherboard Cover Assembly

Remove all Phillips #00 screws, 8 in total, with a length of 4 mm.

Insert an opening pick between the bottom right corner of the motherboard cover and the motherboard.

  • Pry up the motherboard cover to open the plastic clips that hold it in place.
  • If necessary, slightly rotate the opening pick sideways to make the process easier.
  • Work your way along the right edge of the motherboard cover.

Lift the right edge of the motherboard cover

  • The plastic clips should open during this process.
  • If not, they can be unhinged by hand.
  • Remove the entire motherboard assembly.

Step 11 | Motherboard

Disconnect the display flex cable by prying it loose with a spudger.

Use a spudger to pry up and release the digitizer flex cable.

Step 13

Use a spudger to carefully pry up and then fully disconnect the rear camera flex cable.

Step 14

Disconnect the front camera flex cable using a spudger.

Avoid damaging the disconnected flex cables.

  • Insert an opening pick into the bottom right corner of the motherboard and rotate it to pry out.
  • Perform this action slowly to avoid further damage.

Position the opening pick at the right edge of the motherboard, near the SIM card slot.

  • Slide the pick under the motherboard's edge.
  • Pry the motherboard up by rotating the opening pick sideways.

Step 17

Grasp the motherboard by its top section.

Careful not to damage any components as you lift.

Lift the motherboard out of the phone.

Step 18 | Earpiece speaker

Remove the earpiece speaker along with its attached foam gasket.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to carefully lift out the earpiece speaker.
