LG G2 Motherboard Replacement

This is a step-by-step replacement procedure for the LG G2's motherboard.

Step 1 | Motherboard

Start at the bottom corner of the phone using a plastic opening tool or the thin side of a spudger.

Be gentle to avoid cosmetic and internal damage.

Remove the back cover to access internal components.

  • Use a Phillips 00 screwdriver to remove all visible screws.
  • Separate and organize the screws by color:
    • Silver: #1 4mm, circled in red (6)
    • Gold: #1 4mm, circled in yellow (5)
    • Black: #2 2mm, circled in blue (1)

Use a spudger to carefully pry off the top plastic cover.

Remove the bottom plastic cover.

Ensure the motherboard is fully visible.

  • Loosen connectors on motherboard using the pointy end of a spudger.
  • Verify complete disconnection by referencing the provided image.

Disconnect the flex cables from the smaller board using a spudger.

  • Locate the flex cables on the left and right side of the battery.
  • Gently pry the smaller board away from the motherboard, taking care not to damage it or its adhesive connections.

Be cautious when removing the left flex cable as it is connected to the side.

  • Pull the left flex cable away from its connection point on the side, taking care not to damage or bend it excessively.

Step 8

Verify that the flex cables appear disconnected, then proceed to remove the control board.

  • The control board is connected at the bottom and must be removed first.

  • Disconnect the LCD connector (red color-coded).
  • Remove the Digitizer connection (yellow color-coded).
  • Separately, disconnect the two antenna connections (green color-coded).

    Be careful not to damage the antenna connectors.

Use a Spudger to carefully pry the motherboard free from its adhesive.

  • The motherboard should lift away with gentle prying.
  • Proceed with caution, as the adhesive may leave residue.

Be careful not to damage any components or connectors on the underside of the motherboard.
