LG G2 Battery Replacement

This tutorial covers replacing the battery in your LG G2 smartphone.

Step 1 | Motherboard

Be careful when prying the back cover off, as excessive force can cause cosmetic and internal damage.

  • Use a plastic opening tool or the thin side of a spudger
  • Start at the bottom corner of the phone and gently pry the back cover away

  • Remove the back cover to access the interior.
  • Use a Phillips 00 screwdriver to remove all visible screws, and organize them for reassembly.
  • Mixing different colored screws can lead to confusion during reassembly.

    • Silver cross-head screws (#1, 4mm): 6 circled in red.
    • Gold cross-head screws (#1, 4mm): 5 circled in yellow.
    • Black cross-head screw (#2, 2mm): 1 circled in blue.

Use a spudger to carefully remove the top plastic cover.

Remove and discard the bottom plastic cover.

Ensure the motherboard is fully visible.

  • Loosen connectors to the motherboard using the pointed end of a spudger.
  • Verify disconnection by comparing with reference image.

Disconnect the flex cable connectors from the smaller board.

  • Use a spudger to carefully separate the smaller board from the motherboard, taking care not to damage any adhesive materials.

Be cautious when removing the left flex cable as it is also attached to the side.

  • Pry the left flex cable away from its connection, taking care not to bend or break it.

Do not attempt to separate the flex cables yet — they share a connection.

  • Locate the small control board attached at the bottom of the two flex cables.
  • Remove the control board in its entirety.

Disconnect the LCD connector (red color-coded).

  • Also disconnect the Digitizer connector (yellow color-coded).
  • Remove the antenna connections (green color-coded).

Use a Spudger to gently pry the motherboard from its adhesive mount.

  • The motherboard should come loose, providing access to the area underneath.
  • Once removed, inspect the area for any additional components or cables.
