LG Escape (p870) Touch screen/digitizer Replacement

Step 1 | Battery

Flip the device over and remove the back panel by inserting a fingernail into the opening at the bottom.

Lift the battery by its bottom edge with your finger and set it aside.

  • You will now be able to access your SD card, your SIM card, and your device's serial numbers.

Step 3 | Loudspeaker Assembly

Remove the four Phillips 00 screws holding the speaker assembly in place.

Insert a small flathead screwdriver into the gap between the speaker assembly and the rear housing.

  • Pry the speaker assembly out of the phone.
  • Set the speaker assembly aside.

Step 5 | Touch screen/digitizer

Remove screws holding plastic frame to back housing. There are 6 screws left to remove.

Insert a black plastic spudger or small flathead screwdriver between the back silver bezel and black area.

  • Pry the bezel away from the rest of the phone, working your way around.
  • Be careful not to damage surrounding components.

Once the frame is free, set it aside carefully.

  • Disconnect the wifi antenna from its housing.
  • Remove the cell service antenna from its bracket.
  • Unplug the LCD connector from its socket.
  • Disconnect the back camera connector from the motherboard.
  • Separate the front camera connector from its socket.
  • Unplug the touch screen/digitizer connector from its port.
  • Remove the charger port connector using a spudger.
  • Disconnect the headphone jack connector from its socket.

  • Detach the LCD flex connector using a spudger or safe open pry tool.
  • Release the two antennae from their connectors.
  • Free the back camera's flex from its connector.

  • Disconnect the charging port flex from its socket.
  • Release the front camera's flex from its connector.
  • Separate the touch screen/digitizer's flex cable from its connection point.

Release the headphone jack's flex cable from its connector.

Fingerprints can cause damage; handle with care.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to carefully pull out the volume button flex from the rear housing.
  • Repeat this process for the power button flex cable.
  • The power and volume button flex cables are prone to tearing; be cautious when handling them.

Carefully lift the motherboard away from the housing.

  • Be cautious of the antennae and flex cables to avoid damage.
  • Set the motherboard aside once removed.

Insert a flathead screwdriver or black plastic spudger between the front silver bezel and black mid-frame.

  • Pry gently to release clips holding the screen to the mid-frame.
  • Work around the phone, using a small flathead or spudger, until the screen is fully separated.

Be careful not to tear the flex cable still threaded through the housing when removing the screen.

After separating the digitizer and outer housing/bezel from the middle bracket, note that strong adhesive holds the digitizer in place. When replacing the digitizer, use double-sided tape or epoxy to secure it to the bezel.
