LG Escape (p870) LCD Screen Replacement

Step 1 | Battery

Flip the device over and locate the small gap at the bottom.

Insert a blunt object, like a plastic spudger or fingernail, carefully into this gap to pry off the rear cover.

From the bottom edge, use your finger to lift the battery out of the phone.

  • The battery can be set aside for safe storage.
  • This will grant access to:
    • Your SD card
    • Your SIM card
    • Your device's serial numbers

Step 3 | Loudspeaker Assembly

Remove the 4 Phillips 00 screws holding the speaker assembly in place.

Take care when prying to avoid damaging any surrounding components.

  • Insert a small flathead screwdriver between the speaker assembly and rear housing.
  • Pry the speaker assembly out of the phone, then set it aside for later reinstallation.

Step 5 | Touch screen/digitizer

  • Remove six screws holding the plastic frame in place.

Insert a black plastic spudger or small flathead screwdriver between the back silver bezel and black area.

  • Pry the bezel away from the rest of the phone.
  • Continue working your way around the phone, prying carefully with the tool.
  • Set the frame aside when it is free.

  • Remove the wifi and cell service antennas for improved repair access.
  • Disconnect the LCD connector to prevent accidental power-ons.
  • Take extra care when handling the back camera connector, as damage can be costly.

  • Remove the front camera connector before proceeding with further disassembly.
  • Disconnect the touch screen/digitizer connector to prevent any accidental inputs or data loss.
  • Release the charger port connector from its retaining clips.
  • Careful handling of the headphone jack connector is required, as bent pins can be difficult to repair.

Use a spudger to gently detach the LCD flex connector.

  • Release the two antennae from their respective connectors.
  • Disconnect the back camera's flex connector.

  • Release the charging port flex from its connector.
  • Disconnect the front camera's flex from its connector.
  • Release the touch screen/digitizer's flex cable from its connector.

Step 10

Disconnect the headphone jack's flex cable from its connector.

Tear-prone volume button and power button flex cables — handle with extreme care.

  • Use tweezers to carefully pull the volume button flex cable out of the rear housing.
  • Repeat the process for the power button flex cable.

Remove the motherboard from its housing with caution.

  • Lift the motherboard carefully to avoid damaging the antennae or flex cables.
  • Set the motherboard safely aside.

Be careful not to damage the flex cable when removing the screen.

  • Insert a flathead screwdriver or black plastic spudger between the front bezel and mid-frame.
  • Pry gently on the bezel to release the clips holding the screen in place.
  • Work around the phone, using a small flathead or spudger, until the screen is fully separated.
  • Remove the screen, taking care not to damage the flex cable still threaded through the housing.

When replacing the digitizer, use double-sided tape or epoxy to secure it to the bezel, as the original adhesive will be destroyed.

Step 14 | LCD Screen

Remove the adhesive tape covering the LCD ribbon cable.

  • Gently peel the tape away from the phone's back plate.
  • Continue peeling until all adhesive is removed.

Step 15

Lift the LCD from its bottom edge.

  • Work the ribbon cable carefully through the hole.
  • Set the LCD aside.
