LG Escape (p870) Headphone Jack Replacement

This guide is for replacing the headphone jack in an LG p870.

Step 1 | Battery

Pull the back plastic cover off by inserting a finger into the opening at the bottom of the phone and gently pulling.

Lift the battery from the bottom edge using your finger.

Be careful not to touch any internal components — risk of electric shock.

  • The battery is now removed, providing access to:
  • Your SD card
  • Your SIM card
  • Device serial numbers

Step 3 | Loudspeaker Assembly

Remove the four Phillips 00 screws securing the speaker assembly.

  • Located at the bottom of the phone housing, near the speaker grille.
or alternatively:

Be careful not to damage surrounding components when removing these screws.

  • Remove the four Phillips 00 screws securing the speaker assembly to the phone housing.

Insert a small flathead screwdriver between the speaker assembly and the rear housing.

  • Pry the speaker assembly out of the phone.
  • Set it aside safely.

Step 5 | Touch screen/digitizer

Remove six screws that hold the plastic frame to the back housing.

Be careful not to apply too much pressure on the screen or other components.

  • Insert a black plastic spudger between the back silver bezel and black area.
  • Pry the bezel away from the phone, working your way around carefully with the spudger.
  • Once free, set the frame aside for further disassembly.

Locate the following connectors:

  • wifi and cell service antenna connectors
  • LCD display connector
  • back camera connector
  • front camera connector
  • touch screen/digitizer connector
  • charger port connector
  • headphone jack connector

Use a spudger to carefully detach the LCD flex connector.

  • Release the two antennae from their connectors.
  • Disconnect the back camera's flex cable from its connector.

Disconnect the charging port flex from its connector.

  • Release the front camera's flex from its connector.
  • Remove the touch screen/digitizer's flex cable from its connector.

Step 10

  • Release the headphone jack's flex cable from its connector.

Power button and volume button flex cables are prone to tearing; handle with care.

  • Use tweezers to carefully remove the volume button flex from the rear housing.
  • Repeat the process for the power button flex cable, exercising caution against damage.

Remove the motherboard from the housing, being careful not to damage any antennae or flex cables.

Take extra care when handling these components to avoid damage.

Set the motherboard aside in a safe location.

Insert a small flathead screwdriver or black plastic spudger between the front silver bezel and the black mid-frame.

  • Pry on the bezel to release the clips holding the screen in place.
  • Work your way around the phone, using the spudger or screwdriver, until the screen is fully separated.
  • Remove the screen, being careful not to tear the flex cable still threaded through the housing.

Be aware that removing the old digitizer will damage its adhesive hold on the mid-frame. When replacing it, use double-sided tape or epoxy for attachment.

Step 14 | Headphone Jack

Remove the ribbon cable from the mid-frame by gently peeling it away.

Note that the adhesive used is relatively mild and should not cause damage to the components.
