LG Escape (p870) Front Camera Replacement

This repair guide shows steps for replacing the front camera on an LG P870.

Step 1 | Battery

Turn the device over.

  • Pull the back cover off by inserting a fingernail into the opening at the bottom of the device.
  • Gently pull to remove the cover.

Use a finger from the bottom edge to gently lift the battery out.

  • Set the battery aside, exposing the SD card slot and SIM card slot.
  • You can now access your device's serial numbers.

Step 3 | Loudspeaker Assembly

Remove the 4 Phillips 00 screws holding the speaker assembly in place.

Insert a small flathead screwdriver between the speaker assembly and the rear housing.

Use gentle pressure to avoid damaging components.

  • Pry the speaker assembly out of the phone.
  • Set the speaker assembly aside for further disassembly.

Step 5 | Touch screen/digitizer

Remove the six screws holding the plastic frame to the back housing.

Be careful not to damage the phone's casing.

  • Insert a black plastic spudger or small flathead screwdriver between the back silver bezel and black area.
  • Pry the bezel away from the rest of the phone, working your way around the device carefully.
  • Continue prying until the frame is free, then set it aside.

The following components require replacement:

  • Wi-Fi and cellular antennas
  • LCD connector
  • Back camera connector
  • Front camera connector
  • Touch screen/digitizer connector
  • Charger port connector
  • Headphone jack connector

    lcd flex connector using a spudger or safe open pry tool.
  • Release the two antennae from their connectors.
  • Disconnect the back camera's flex from its connector.

Disconnect the charging port flex from its connector.

  • Release the front camera flex from its connector.
  • Remove the touch screen/digitizer flex cable from its connector.

Step 10

Release the headphone jack flex cable from its connector.

  • Gently pull the cable away from the socket.
  • Be careful not to damage the connector or the cable itself.

Tear-prone flex cables require utmost care.

  • Use tweezers to carefully pull out the volume button flex from the rear housing.
  • Repeat the process for the power button flex cable.

Both cables are prone to tearing with excessive force.

Lift the motherboard away from the housing.

Be careful not to snag any of the antennae or flex cables during this process.

  • Set the motherboard aside in a safe location.

Take care not to damage the flex cable during screen removal.

  • Insert a small flathead screwdriver or black plastic spudger between the front silver bezel and mid-frame.
  • Pry on the bezel, working your way around the phone to release the clips holding the screen in place.
  • Remove the screen, carefully disconnecting it from the flex cable still threaded through the housing.

Be aware that strong adhesive holds the digitizer to the bezel. This will be damaged when removing the old digitizer.

Replace with a new digitizer secured using double-sided tape or epoxy for added stability.

Step 14 | Ear Speaker

Insert a flathead screwdriver or black plastic spudger between the top of the ear speaker and housing.

  • Pry the ear speaker out carefully, then set it aside.
  • Note the replacement speaker's orientation for proper reassembly.

Step 15 | Front Camera

Use a spudger or small flathead screwdriver to gently pry the front camera out of its socket.

  • Do not remove the camera from the phone at this time.
  • Be careful not to damage the camera's flex cable.
  • Flip the phone over and carefully peel the adhesive portion of the flex cable off the phone.
  • Remove the camera from its socket and set it aside.
