LG Escape (p870) earpiece speaker replacement

The purpose of this repair is to replace the ear speaker in an LG Escape (p870) device.

Step 1 | Battery

Locate the opening at the bottom of the phone.

  • Insert a fingernail into the opening and gently pull.

The plastic cover may break if excessive force is applied.

Lift the battery out from the bottom edge using your finger.

  • Set the battery aside.
  • You now have access to:
    • Your SD card.
    • Your SIM card.
    • Your device's serial numbers.

Step 3 | Loudspeaker Assembly

Remove the four Phillips 00 screws securing the speaker assembly.

Insert a small flathead screwdriver into the gap between the speaker assembly and the rear housing.

Be cautious not to damage the surrounding components.

Pry the speaker assembly out of the phone and set it aside carefully.

Step 5 | Touch screen/digitizer

Remove the six screws holding the plastic frame to the back housing.

Insert a black plastic spudger or small flathead screwdriver between the back silver bezel and black area.

  • Pry the bezel away from the rest of the phone, working your way around.
  • Continue prying carefully with your tool until the frame is free.

Be cautious not to damage surrounding components during disassembly.

Set the frame aside when completely separated.

  • Disconnect the WiFi antenna and cellular antenna.
  • Remove the LCD connector
  • Separate the back camera connector
  • Disconnect the front camera connector
  • Release the touch screen/digitizer connector
  • Remove the charger port connector
  • Take out the headphone jack connector

Remove the LCD flex connector using a spudger or safe open pry tool.

  • Disconnect the two antennae from their respective connectors.
  • Release the back camera's flex from its connector.

Release the charging port flex from its connector.

  • Front camera flex, release it from its connector.
  • Touch screen/digitizer flex cable, disconnect it from its connector.

Disconnect the headphone jack flex cable from its connector.

Tearing the flex cables can occur due to their delicate nature.

  • Pull out the volume button flex using a pair of tweezers.
  • Be very careful, as this cable is prone to damage.
  • Repeat the process for the power button flex.

Carefully lift the motherboard out of its housing, avoiding the antennae and flex cables.

Take extra precautions to prevent damage to these sensitive components.

  • Set the motherboard aside in a safe location.

Insert a screwdriver or spudger between the front bezel and mid-frame.

  • Pry gently to release clips holding the screen in place.
  • Work around the phone until the screen is fully separated.
  • Remove the screen, avoiding damage to the flex cable.

Careful handling is necessary when disconnecting the digitizer and housing/bezel.

  • Thread the digitizer and housing/bezel from the middle bracket.
  • Be prepared for strong adhesive on the old digitizer, which will be damaged during removal.

When replacing the digitizer, use double-sided tape or epoxy to secure it to the bezel.

Step 14 | Ear Speaker

Insert a flathead screwdriver or black plastic spudger between the top of the ear speaker and the housing.

  • Pry the ear speaker out carefully, then set it aside.
  • Record the orientation of the replacement speaker for reassembly purposes.
