Home Repair Guides Google Pixel Troubleshooting Google Pixel Overheating

Google Pixel Overheating

If your phone is excessively hot, causing discomfort or displaying a thermal warning, this may indicate an issue that requires attention.

  • Carefully examine the device for signs of overheating or damage.
  • Review the repair guides below to troubleshoot and resolve any underlying causes.

Step 1 | Exposure to Extreme Temperatures

Avoid exposing your Pixel to extreme heat or direct sunlight.

  • Place the device in a shaded area away from direct sunlight.
  • Lower the screen brightness for faster cooling.
  • For quicker results, turn off your Pixel during this time.

Step 2 | Thermal Suffocation

Some phones may struggle to dissipate generated heat due to limited internal space.

  • Remove the phone case to prevent trapped heat buildup, especially if it's an all-encompassing model.
  • Dust accumulation can exacerbate overheating issues; inspect and clean the internals using compressed air or a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol if necessary.

Step 3 | Heavy Workload

Closing unused apps reduces overheating, which improves performance.

  • Close multiple app usage by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
  • Tap "clear all" to close all running apps at once.

Optimize your experience by closing apps regularly, especially after intense activities like streaming video or playing games.

Step 4 | Faulty Third-Party App

Overheating may be caused by newly installed third-party apps.

  • Boot into Safe Mode: Press the power button, then hold down the phone's volume down button until 'Safe mode' appears on screen.
  • In Safe Mode, uninstall suspicious apps:
    • Navigate to Google Play Store > Profile icon > Manage apps & devices > Manage.
    • Find the app causing issues and tap Uninstall.
  • To exit Safe Mode: Hold down the power button for 30 seconds or more. On some Pixels, tap Restart instead.

Step 5 | Faulty Battery

Lithium-ion batteries can be hazardous if damaged.

  • Check for signs of battery swelling, including:
    • Localized screen discoloration on the left side (right side for series 12 and 13 iPhones)
    • Screen lifting along one side
  • If you notice any signs of failure, replace the battery.

Step 6 | Faulty Circuit Board

If overheating persists after troubleshooting, inspect the circuit board for signs of damage.

  • Look for bending, liquid exposure, burn marks, or loose components.
  • Replaced affected boards may resolve the issue.

Alternatively, consider microsoldering to repair individual components, a skill requiring practice and expertise.

  • For guidance, refer to online resources such as Jessa's YouTube channel or local repair shops.
