Home Repair Guides Google Pixel Troubleshooting Google Pixel No Sound

Google Pixel No Sound

Your Google Phone speaker isn't working and headphones won't play sound?

  • No sound coming from your phone's speaker
  • Headphones not playing sound when connected to your phone
  • Others can't hear you on a call
  • Mic issues with your Google Pixel

Sound and mic issues could be due to either software or hardware problems.

Step 1 | Misconfigured Sound Settings

Verify that Do Not Disturb mode is not enabled, which can override volume settings.

  • Check the schedule in Settings > Sound & vibration > Do Not Disturb Schedules.
  • Adjust or delete the schedule to prevent automatic enabling.

Confirm that audio is outputting to the correct device:

  • Check if signal is being sent to headphones or a Bluetooth device.
  • Disconnect the affiliated device, then disable Bluetooth by swiping down from the top of the phone and tapping the Bluetooth icon.

Inspect all volume settings:

  • Verify media, call, and ringer volumes are set as expected in Settings > Sound & vibration.

Step 2 | Speakers Obstructed

Remove phone case and charging accessories to rule out sound suppression.

Be careful not to damage internal components with metal utensils when cleaning.

  • Use a toothpick or similar tool to clean the auxiliary (headphone) jack.
  • Use a soft-bristle toothbrush to clear out debris from speaker grilles.

Step 3 | Faulty Third-Party App

Some web browser apps may mute video playback.

  • Check for updates in the Google Play Store app.
  • If issues persist, navigate to Settings > Apps > See all apps.
  • Tap the ⋮ icon on top right and select Reset app preferences > Reset apps.
  • Boot into Safe Mode by powering down, holding volume down until 'Safe mode' appears.
    • In Safe Mode, test phone's sound to determine if issue is hardware or software-related.
    • If issue persists in Safe Mode, the problem may be with a recently installed app.
    • Uninstall the suspected app by navigating to Google Play Store > Profile icon > Manage apps & devices > Manage.

To exit Safe Mode, hold power button for 30 seconds (or tap Restart on some Pixel phones).

Step 4 | Malfunctioning Microphone

Check if others can hear you during calls, as poor sound quality may indicate an issue with your Google Pixel's microphone.

  • Clean the top and bottom of the phone's microphone using a microfiber rag.
  • Close all running apps by swiping up from the bottom of the screen and tapping Clear all to ensure app interference does not affect audio quality.

  • Restart the call to check if your audio from the microphone is clearer.

Step 5 | Firmware Fault

A factory reset will completely wipe your phone's data — make sure you have a backup before attempting this.

  • Turn off the phone by holding down the power button.
  • PRESS AND HOLD POWER AND VOLUME DOWN until the Fastboot Mode screen appears.
  • Navigate to Recovery Mode using the volume buttons, then press the power button to select it.
  • PRESS POWER AND VOLUME UP together to enter recovery mode.
  • SELECT Wipe data/factory reset with the volume down button and confirm with one press of the power button.
  • SELECT Yes on data wipe confirmation using the volume down button.
  • Restore your backup by logging in to your Google account from the Settings app.

If sound issues persist after auxiliary jack cleaning.

  • Verify headphones functionality by plugging them into another device.
  • If no sound transmitted to other devices, consider replacing the headphones.
  • If audio is received from other devices, inspect phone's auxiliary jack for damage.

If jack cleaning fails or broken, replace it with a new part using an appropriate guide.

  • Exhaust all other troubleshooting options if sound issues persist on phone's speaker.
  • If audio issues remain after troubleshooting, consider replacing the phone's speaker using a relevant guide.

Step 7 | Bent PCB

Bending your phone frame may crack the printed circuit board (PCB), causing audio issues.

  • Try power cycling your phone while flexing it in the opposite direction.
  • If this fixes the issue, consider replacing the motherboard.
  • For a permanent fix, visit the Google Pixel Device Page to find model-specific guides and parts.
