Nexus 6P Headphone Jack Replacement

Step 1 | Back Cover

Using an iOpener for back cover removal can be lengthy and difficult due to extremely sticky adhesive.

For a more efficient method, use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive.

  • Remove the SIM card tray using a SIM card eject tool.
  • Apply an iOpener to loosen the adhesive underneath the small plastic cover at the bottom of the phone.

Be extremely cautious when handling sharp objects.

  • Pry up the plastic cover until an opening pick can be inserted.
  • Slide the opening pick underneath the plastic cover to detach it from the adhesive.

  • Apply heat from an iOpener to loosen the adhesive under the top glass cover.
  • Use a knife to separate the glass cover from the phone.
  • Pry up the glass cover until you can safely insert an opening pick.

Wear protective glasses and protective gloves when handling fragile components.

  • Insert an opening pick under the glass cover to cut the adhesive.
  • Pry off the glass cover using a gentle prying motion.

Remove the six Phillips #00 screws.

  • Optional: Use tweezers to gently remove any stickers covering the screws, ensuring a clear path for the driver.

Use extreme caution when handling sharp objects.

  • Insert a razor knife between the metal back cover and front glass to create a gap.
  • Pry open a gap with an opening pick, working your way up to the top right corner.
  • Repeat on the left side by inserting another opening pick in the top left corner.
  • Slide the picks along the edges to release the plastic clips holding the rear cover and midframe together.

Remove the razor knife carefully as you progress, taking care not to cut yourself or damage your phone.

  • Once the clips are released, carefully remove the rear cover.

Step 7 | Battery Disconnection

Remove the Phillips #000 screw.

  • Use tweezers to remove the metal plate.
  • Disconnect the battery flex cable using the flat end of a spudger.

Step 8 | Headphone Jack

  • Remove the 2 x Phillips #000 screws.
  • Disconnect the antenna cable using a pair of tweezers.
  • Take out the metal plate covering the front-facing camera and headphone jack.

Step 9

  • Disconnect the headphone jack flex cable using the flat end of a spudger.
  • Remove the headphone jack.
