Nexus 6P Front Facing Camera Replacement

Replace the front facing camera in your Nexus 6P following these instructions.

  • When reassembling, apply new adhesive as needed to ensure proper fit and function.

Step 1 | Back Cover

For best results, use a heat gun instead of an iOpener for removing the back cover.

  • Remove the SIM card tray using a SIM card eject tool.
  • Be cautious: The adhesive is extremely sticky and prone to causing damage to the glass and plastic back cover.
  • Use an iOpener to loosen the adhesive underneath the small plastic cover at the bottom of the phone.

Be extremely cautious when handling this repair.

  • Use a kitchen knife (sharp side in)
  • Insert knife between phone and plastic cover, prying up gently until an opening pick can fit.
  • Slide the opening pick under the plastic cover to break adhesive.

Apply heat from the iOpener to loosen adhesive under the glass cover.

  • Insert a knife between the phone and glass cover, prying it up.
  • Continue until an opening pick can be inserted.

Wear protective glasses and gloves when handling broken glass.

  • Insert an opening pick under the glass cover, being careful not to break it further.
  • Pry off the glass cover once the adhesive is cut.

Remove the six Phillips #00 screws using a screwdriver.

  • Use tweezers to carefully lift off any stickers covering the screw head, if present.
  • This will improve seating for your Phillips #00 driver.

Careful handling is necessary as the razor knife is sharp.

  • Insert a razor knife between the metal back cover and the front glass to create a gap.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap and slide it to the top right corner.
  • Insert a second opening pick and slide it to the top left corner.
  • Slide both picks along the edges to separate the plastic clips holding the back cover and midframe together.

Remove the rear cover once the clips are separated.

Step 7 | Battery Disconnection

  • Remove the Phillips #000 screw.
  • Use tweezers to remove the metal plate.
  • Disconnect the battery flex cable using the flat end of a spudger.

Step 8 | Front Facing Camera

Unscrew the two Phillips #000 screws.

  • Disconnect the antenna cable using tweezers.
  • Remove the metal plate covering the front facing camera and headphone jack.

Disconnect the front camera flex cable using the flat end of a spudger.

Ensure the camera is properly secured before removal.

  • Remove the front camera from its housing.
