Nexus 6P Display Replacement

Apply protective tape to the screen for safe handling and removal of the display.

  • Follow this guide to remove and replace the display in your Nexus 6P smartphone.
  • When reassembling, apply new adhesive where necessary.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Beware: Using an iOpener for back cover removal is a lengthy and difficult process.

Instead, we recommend using a heat gun or similar tool for faster results.

  • Use a SIM card eject tool to remove the SIM card tray.
  • Apply an iOpener to loosen the adhesive underneath the small plastic cover at the bottom of the phone.

Careful not to cut yourself or your phone.

  • Insert a sharp kitchen knife between the phone and the plastic cover.
  • Pry up the plastic cover until an opening pick can be inserted.
  • Slide the opening pick underneath the plastic cover to cut the adhesive.

Apply heat from an iOpener to loosen the adhesive under the top glass cover.

  • Insert a knife between the phone and glass cover, prying up the glass until you can insert an opening pick.

Wear protective glasses and gloves when handling glass.

  • Slide the opening pick under the glass cover.
  • Pry off the glass cover, cutting the adhesive underneath.

Remove the six #00 Phillips screws.

  • Use tweezers to lift off any sticker or labels from the screws.
  • This helps ensure a snug fit for the screwdriver.

Use caution with the razor knife as it is sharp and can cause injury.

  • Insert a razor knife between the metal back cover and front glass to create a gap.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap and slide it to the top right corner.
  • Insert a second opening pick and slide it to the top left corner.
  • Slide both picks along the edges to release the plastic clips holding the back cover and midframe together.
  • Remove the rear cover.

Step 7 | Battery

Remove the Phillips #00 screw from its socket.

  • Take care not to lose the screw in the surrounding material.
  • Use tweezers to carefully lift out the metal plate.

Disconnect the three flex cables with the flat end of a spudger.

Use a spudger's flat end to release the interconnect cable from the daughterboard.

Be careful when handling the interconnect cable, as it may be damaged easily.

Apply an iOpener to loosen the adhesive securing the battery in place.

Do not insert tools too deeply, as the display cable lies underneath the battery.

  • Insert the flat end of a spudger up to the notch and carefully slide along the edge to cut the adhesive.
  • Use a plastic card to cut remaining adhesive on the left side underneath the battery.

Disconnect and remove the battery.

Step 12 | Display

  • Remove the two Phillips #000 screws.
  • Disconnect the metal plate.
  • Use the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the display flex cable.

Apply gentle heat from an iOpener to soften the adhesive underneath the display.

Insert an iFlex opening tool between the display and midframe, creating a gap.

  • Carefully insert an opening pick into the gap and slide it towards the top right corner.
  • Repeat for the second opening pick, moving it to the top left corner.

Insert an opening pick into the top left corner and slide it down along the left edge to the bottom left corner.

Step 16

Reheat stubborn adhesive with your iOpener.

  • Slide the opening pick from top right, around the corner to lower right.
  • Continue down the side and then towards the charging port.

Use a sharp object to carefully cut off any remaining adhesive.

  • Separate the display from the midframe by pulling it away at the top of the device.
  • Thread the display flex cable through the gap in the midframe.
  • Be gentle to avoid damaging any components.
  • Once clear, remove the display.
