The iOpener method for removing the back cover is possible but labor-intensive.

For a more efficient removal, use a heat gun or similar tool to loosen the adhesive.

The Nexus 6P's adhesive is extremely sticky and prone to damaging the glass/plastic cover during this process.

  • Use a SIM card eject tool to remove the SIM card tray.
  • Apply an iOpener to loosen the adhesive under the small plastic cover at the bottom of the phone.

  • Insert a razor knife between metal back cover and front glass to create gap.
  • Place an opening pick in the gap and slide it to top right corner.
  • Repeat with second opening pick, sliding it to top left corner.
  • Slide both picks along edges to release plastic clips holding back cover and midframe together.

Continue carefully as the back cover may still be attached at this point.
