Nexus 6P Battery Replacement

If your battery is swollen, handle with care to avoid damage or injury.

  • Use this guide to replace the battery in your Nexus 6P smartphone.
  • Apply new adhesive as needed when reassembling the device.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Using an iOpener for back cover removal is not recommended due to excessive difficulty and risk of damage.

Instead, employ a heat gun or equivalent tool to facilitate safe removal.

  • Use a SIM card eject tool to remove the SIM card tray.
  • Apply an iOpener to loosen adhesive under the lower plastic cover.

Handle the kitchen knife with care, avoiding contact with skin or sensitive devices.

  • Position the kitchen knife between the phone and the plastic casing.
  • Pry the plastic cover upward until an opening pick can be inserted.
  • Slide the opening pick beneath the plastic cover to separate the adhesive.

Apply heat with the iOpener to loosen adhesive under the top glass cover.

  • Insert a knife between phone and glass, prying upward to create gap for insertion of opening pick.

Risk of broken glass — wear protective glasses and gloves.

  • Slide an opening pick under the glass cover to break adhesive.
  • Pry off the glass cover

Remove the six Phillips #00 screws.

  • Use tweezers to carefully lift and remove any stickers covering the screws, allowing a proper fit for the screwdriver.

Be extremely cautious when handling the razor knife.

  • Insert a razor knife between the metal back cover and front glass to create a gap.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap and slide it to the top right corner.
  • Insert a second opening pick and slide it to the top left corner.

Continue sliding the opening picks along the edges, carefully separating the plastic clips holding back cover and midframe together.

  • Once the clips are separated, remove the rear cover.

Remove the Phillips #00 screw.

  • Use tweezers to carefully lift out the metal plate.

Disconnect the flex cables with the flat end of a spudger.

Loosen the battery adhesive using an iOpener.

  • Disconnect the interconnect cable from the daughterboard with a spudger.

Do not insert the spudger or plastic card too deep underneath the battery.

  • Insert the flat end of a spudger as deep as the notch and carefully slide along the edge to cut the adhesive.
  • Use a plastic card to cut the remaining adhesive on the left side underneath the battery.

Disconnect the battery from the device.
