Nexus 6P Back Cover Replacement

This is a repair guide for replacing the back cover on a Nexus 6P phone.

  • Follow this guide to replace the back cover.
  • When reassembling, apply new adhesive only where necessary to avoid damage.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Using an iOpener to remove back cover can be lengthy and difficult; a heat gun or similar tool is recommended due to strong adhesive.

  • Use a SIM card eject tool to pop out the SIM card tray.
  • Apply an iOpener to loosen adhesive under the small plastic cover at the phone's bottom.

Be extremely careful with the sharp kitchen knife to avoid cutting yourself or your device.

  • Insert the kitchen knife between the phone and the plastic cover.
  • Pry up the plastic cover until an opening pick can be inserted.
  • Slide the opening pick underneath the plastic cover to loosen the adhesive.

Apply heat with an iOpener to loosen the adhesive beneath the top glass cover.

  • Insert a kitchen knife between the phone and the glass cover.
  • Pry up the glass cover until you can insert an opening pick.

Risk of injury from broken glass — wear protective glasses and gloves.

  • Insert the opening pick under the glass cover, being careful to avoid cuts.
  • Pry off the glass cover using the opening pick.

Remove the six Phillips #00 screws.

Use tweezers to carefully remove any covering stickers from the screw head.

Use caution when handling sharp tools.

  • Insert a razor knife between the metal back cover and front glass to create a gap.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap and slide it to the top right corner.
  • Repeat with a second opening pick, sliding it to the top left corner.
  • Slide both picks along the edges to separate plastic clips holding the back cover and midframe together.
  • Remove the rear cover.
