This step-by-step guide helps you install a new ultra wideband antenna in your Google Pixel Fold.
Charge level must be less than 25% before commencing the repair — risk of thermal runaway with a charged battery.
Power down the device and disconnect all external connections.
Place the phone on a flat surface with the back glass facing upwards.
The Anti-Clamp method requires careful positioning of suction cups and may not work on slippery surfaces or cracked glass.
Apply tape to create a grippier surface if needed, or use packing tape for cracked glass.
Squeeze the cups together to apply suction, ensuring a secure hold.
Place a flat object under your phone, such as a box or stack of books.
Make sure the suction cups remain aligned with each other to ensure proper operation.
If the cups begin to slip out of alignment, detach and realign the arms before proceeding.
Insert an opening pick into the gap under the back glass.
Apply a suction cup near the center of the bottom edge on the back glass.
Difficulty may arise due to phone age; apply more heat if needed and try again.
Do not insert the opening pick deeper than 3.5 mm — risk of damaging internal components.
Heat the iOpener and apply it to the left edge of the back glass for two minutes.
Insert an opening pick at the bottom left corner and rotate it slowly.
Insert a second opening pick at the bottom left corner.
Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the back glass and heat it for 2 minutes.
Hold the opening pick vertically and rotate it slowly around the top left corner, applying gentle pressure to start separating the adhesive.
Insert a third opening pick into the top left corner.
Apply iOpener to the right edge of the back glass and heat for 2 minutes.
The sharp corner is extremely fragile, requiring great care.
Insert a fourth opening pick in the top right corner.
Handle the sharp corner with extreme care — risk of damage or injury.
Leave the back glass partially attached via the cable.
Be mindful of potential damage to phone's internal components.
Keep track of each screw during this repair and ensure it returns to its original location.
Reinsert the clip under its slot in the frame during reassembly to avoid misalignment.
Use a spudger to pry up and disconnect the back glass cable from the motherboard.
Remove the back glass.
Remove large chunks of old adhesive from the back glass and frame using tweezers.
If custom strips are not available, use double-sided tape (e.g., Tesa Tape) as a substitute.
The graphite sheet is fragile and lightly adhered.
During reassembly:
Use tweezers or a clean fingertip to carefully pull the black screw cover from the top screw on the bottom bracket.
Use a Torx Plus 3IP driver to remove the five 3.1 mm-long screws securing the bottom bracket.
Position the tweezers/fingers to grasp the bottom bracket at the bottom edge.
Reinserting the clip under its slot in the logic board before aligning screw holes is crucial for proper assembly.
Locate the two battery packs.
Remove the grey conductive tape from the bottom interconnect cable.
Do not touch the battery connector to the logic board — risk of damage.
Apply conductive tape to the bottom interconnect connector, ensuring it bridges the logic board.
Press down the conductive tape with a spudger or your fingers.
Remove the tape holding the graphite sheet in place.
Apply gentle pressure with an opening pick to loosen the adhesive holding the ultra-wideband antenna.
Peel up the ultra wideband antenna and remove it.
