Google Pixel Fold Rear Cameras Replacement

This repair guide is authored by iFixit staff and has not been endorsed by Google. For more information on our guides visit here.

  • This guide is for replacing the rear cameras in your Google Pixel Fold.
  • The camera setup includes a wide-angle, ultrawide, and telephoto lens.

Step 1 | Safety Precautions

Step 1 image

Always discharge the battery below 25% to prevent damage, which can cause a potentially hazardous fire.

  • Fully power off your phone using the power button.
  • Unplug all cables from your phone before proceeding with the repair.

Step 2 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 2 image

Place phone on clean surface with back glass facing up.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back glass for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate (but exercise caution to avoid damaging display and/or internal batteries).

Step 3 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Step 3 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Using the Anti-Clamp, follow these steps:

  • Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock the Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Unfold your phone and slide the Anti-Clamp arms over the left edge of the back glass, below the Google "G" logo.

Ensure the suction cup on the inner screen does not touch the bezel for proper adhesion.

  • Position one suction cup near the bottom front edge and another at the bottom back edge of the phone.
  • Squeeze the cups together to apply suction.

If the surface is too slippery, use tape for a better grip. For cracked glass, use packing tape to aid adhesion.

Step 4

Step 4 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Position an object under your phone, such as a box or stack of books, to ensure it remains level between the Anti-Clamp's arms.

  • Pull the blue handle forward to secure the arms in place.
  • Rotate the handle clockwise for approximately 360 degrees until the suction cups begin to stretch.
  • Maintain proper alignment of the suction cups. If they deviate, detach and realign the arms as needed.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Insert an opening pick into the gap under the back glass.

  • If the Anti-Clamp doesn't create a sufficient gap, apply more heat to the area and rotate the handle a quarter turn.
  • Do not crank more than a quarter turn at a time, and wait one minute between turns.

  • Let the Anti-Clamp and time do the work for you.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick

Step 6 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the back glass near its center.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.
  • Difficulty may arise due to phone age; apply more heat and try again if necessary.

    • To aid suction, cover cracked glass with clear packing tape or use very strong adhesive tape instead of the suction cup.
    • Superglue the suction cup to broken glass as a last resort.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Step 7 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Do not insert the opening pick deeper than 3.5 mm — risk of damaging internal components.

  • Slide the opening pick back and forth along the bottom edge to separate the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the bottom left corner before continuing.

Step 8 | Heat the left edge

Step 8 image

Apply iOpener to left edge of back glass and heat for 2 minutes.

Step 9 | Separate the bottom left adhesive

Leave the back glass attached by the cable.

  • Separate the back glass from the frame, working around the edges if necessary.
  • If there's resistance, use an opening pick to remove adhesive.
  • Lift and swing the left edge of the back glass over the right edge of the phone.
  • Place the back glass alongside the phone on the right side.

Step 19 | Unfasten the middle bracket

Step 19 image

Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original location.

  • The Pixel Fold uses Torx Plus screws, but standard Torx bits also work.
  • Use the same size or one larger (T3 or T4 Torx) for 3IP Torx Plus screws.
  • Apply constant, downward force to prevent screw stripping.

  • To remove the middle bracket, use a Torx Plus 3IP driver and the two 2.8 mm-long screws.

Step 20 | Remove the middle bracket

Step 20 image

During reassembly:

  • Tweezers: Remove large chunks of adhesive from back glass perimeter.
  • Repeat for any remaining adhesive on the frame.
  • Isopropyl alcohol (>90%) and lint-free cloth: Clean off any residual adhesive.
  • If custom cut strips are not available, use Tesa Tape (double-sided tape) to secure the back glass instead.

Step 24 | Reposition the graphite sheet

Step 24 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Be very gentle when handling the graphite sheet as it is fragile and may tear easily.

  • Start peeling the bottom of the graphite sheet towards the top of the phone, being careful not to damage the logic board.
  • Use your hands or light adhesive tape to keep the graphite sheet out of the way during the process.

When reassembling:

  • If you removed and replaced the graphite sheet, refer to the replacement guide for correct installation.
  • For temporary attachment without custom adhesive strips, use double-sided tape (e.g. Tesa Tape) to secure the graphite sheet to the logic board.
