Avoid applying excessive force or using tools that could further damage the phone.

  • Apply a suction cup near the center of the bottom edge and pull up firmly to create a gap between the screen and frame.
  • If needed, apply heat to aid in removal.
  • Alternatively, use clear packing tape or strong adhesive-backed tape for extra grip.

If all else fails, superglue can be used as a last resort but handle with care and avoid damaging surrounding components.

  • Align your pick as closely as possible to the screen's surface.
  • Rotate the opening pick around the bottom left corner, maintaining a smooth motion to separate the adhesive.

Step 16 | Adhesive information

Step 16 image

Locate the small adhesive strip at the top right corner of the phone.

  • Use a plastic spudger or similar tool to pry up one edge of the strip.
  • Gently work the tool along the length of the strip, separating it from the surrounding material.
  • Continue this process until the adhesive is completely separated from the phone's casing.

Risk of screen damage: work carefully, applying more heat as needed.

Separate the screen from the frame, using an opening pick for any remaining adhesive.

Do not remove the screen yet, as it's still connected by a cable.

  • Swing the left edge of the screen up and over the right edge of the phone.
  • Let the screen rest next to the phone before proceeding.

Step 21 | Unfasten the bottom bracket

Step 21 image

Keep track of each Torx Plus screw's location for reinstallation.

  • Remove the five 2.5 mm Torx Plus screws from the bottom bracket using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.
  • Standard Torx T3 or T4 bits can also be used; ensure they fit snugly to avoid stripping.

Step 22 | Remove the bottom bracket

Avoid prying against the battery.

  • Angle your spudger under the left or right edges of the press connector.
  • Pry up the flip battery press connector using a spudger's flat end.

When reattaching, align carefully and press down on one side until it clicks, then repeat on the other. Do not press in the middle, as this may cause pin damage.

Step 24 | Disconnect the screen

Step 24 image

Insert the point of a spudger under the short edge of the screen press connector facing the bottom of the phone.

Be cautious not to insert your spudger anywhere else, as you risk damaging surface-mounted components on the logic board.

  • Pry up gently to disconnect the screen press connector.

Step 25 | Remove the screen

Step 25 image

The Pixel's screen is extremely fragile and can be damaged with minor scratches or dents.

  • Remove the screen from the device carefully.
  • Grip the screen by its edges to prevent damage.
  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth to avoid scratches and dents during handling.

Step 26 | Reassembly information

Reassemble by following these steps:

  • Use tweezers to remove large chunks of adhesive from the screen's perimeter.
  • Remove any remaining adhesive on the phone's frame, including the top right small strip, if reusing it intact and sticky.
  • Use a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol (>90%) to clean off any residual adhesive.
  • If using double-sided tape (like Tesa Tape), ensure you have custom cut adhesive strips first, as it may cause damage or poor adhesion.
