  • Use this guide to replace the lower board in your Google Pixel Fold.
  • The SIM card reader is attached to the lower board.

Step 1 | Safety Precautions

Step 1 image

A charged battery can be hazardous when damaged — risk of fire.

Allow the battery to drain below 25% charge level.

  • Power off the device completely.
  • Disconnect all external cables and adapters.

Step 2 | Remove the SIM card tray

Do not insert the opening pick deeper than the dark black border surrounding the screen.

  • Insert the opening pick up to the dark black border only.
  • Avoid inserting the pick further, as this may damage the screen and internal components.

Step 5 | Insert an opening pick

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup near the center of the bottom edge.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the screen and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Difficulty may arise due to phone age. Additional heat may be required, or applying clear packing tape over the crack may aid adhesion.

  • As a last resort, superglue can secure the suction cup in place.

Step 6 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Step 6 image

Thumbnail 3

Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge of the device.

Remove any excess adhesive that separates with the pick, but do not apply pressure too aggressively to avoid damage.

Leave the opening pick in the bottom right corner and continue with the repair.

Step 7 | Heat the right edge

Step 7 image

Heat a iOpener and apply it to the right edge of the screen for 2 minutes.

Step 8 | Separate the bottom right adhesive

The corner is fragile — handle with care.

  • Apply plenty of heat and use a gentle touch when approaching the corner.
  • Flat as possible, angle your pick to the screen.
  • Rotate the pick around the top left corner to separate the adhesive.

The screen corner is extremely delicate, handle with care.

  • Apply generous heat and carefully position the pick parallel to the screen.
  • Rotate the opening pick around the bottom left corner to loosen adhesive.

Step 17 | Adhesive information

Step 17 image

Locate the adhesive strip near the top right corner.

  • Pry up one edge of the strip with a flat tool like a splashboard removal tool.
  • Work your way down along the edge, loosening the adhesive as you go.
  • Continue this process until the entire strip is removed.

Step 18 | Heat the top right corner

Step 18 image

Apply heat from the iOpener to the top right corner of the screen for exactly 2 minutes.

Risk of screen damage: work slowly and carefully.

  • Twist the opening pick back and forth to separate the adhesive.
  • If no separation occurs, apply more heat or adjust the pick's angle.

Step 21 | Reposition the screen

Step 21 image

Thumbnail 3

Separate the screen from the frame. If edges have remaining adhesive, use an opening pick to remove it.

  • Do not disconnect the cable connecting the screen to the phone yet.
  • Swing the left edge of the screen up and over the right edge of the phone.
  • Allow the screen to rest next to the phone before proceeding further.

Step 22 | Unfasten the bottom bracket

Step 22 image

Make sure to keep track of each screw and return it to its original position.

  • The Pixel Fold uses Torx Plus screws, but standard Torx bits will also work, provided they're the same size or one size larger (e.g. T3 Torx for 3IP Torx Plus screws).
  • Apply constant downward force with your chosen bit to prevent stripping.
  • To remove the five 2.5 mm-long screws securing the bottom bracket, use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

Step 23 | Remove the bottom bracket

Step 23 image

Remove the bottom bracket using tweezers or your fingers.

  • Make sure the bottom bracket is seated in its two alignment pegs before refastening it.

Step 24 | Disconnect the flip battery

Step 24 image

Angle your spudger under the left or right edges of the press connector.

Do not pry against the battery during this step.

  • Use the flat end of a spudger to pry up and disconnect the flip battery press connector.
  • To reconnect, carefully align and press down on one side until it clicks into place. Repeat on the other side.
  • Do not press down in the middle of the connector to avoid pin damage from misalignment.

Step 25 | Disconnect the screen

Step 25 image

Never pry near the logic board — damage to surface-mounted components.

  • Insert the point of a spudger under the short edge of the screen press connector, facing the bottom of the phone.
  • Pry up carefully to disconnect the screen press connector.

Step 26 | Remove the screen

Step 26 image

The Pixel's screen is fragile and prone to damage.

  • Remove the screen.
  • Grip the screen by its edges when handling.
  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent damage.

Step 27 | Reassembly information

Reassemble the phone by following these steps:

  • Tweezers: Remove big chunks of adhesive from the screen perimeter.
  • Remove adhesive on the frame, including small amount at top right corner.
  • If top right adhesive is intact and sticky, you can reuse it.
  • Use isopropyl alcohol (≥90%) and lint-free cloth to remove remaining residue.
  • Replace screen adhesive using the provided guide or custom cut strips.
  • If no custom cuts are available, use double-sided tape (Tesa Tape) to secure the screen.

Step 28 | Disconnect the bottom interconnect cable

Step 28 image

Use a spudger to pry up and release the bottom interconnect press connector.

Step 29 | Unfasten the lower board

Step 29 image

Thumbnail 2

Use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to remove the 2.2 mm-long screw securing the lower board.

  • The nearby screw may stick to the magnet at the bottom right corner of phone.
  • If inserting the screw is difficult, use tweezers to hold it in place while screwing in the first few threads.

Step 30 | Secure the cable

Step 30 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Keep the bottom interconnect cable clear of the work area by gently positioning it with your hands or securing it with adhesive-backed tape.

Insert the lower board into position, ensuring it seats properly on both left and right alignment pegs.

  • Align the left edge of the board with its corresponding peg.
  • Position the right edge of the board over its alignment peg.
  • Press down firmly to engage spring connectors and secure the board in place.
