Do not insert your pick too far, as it may damage the screen and internal components.

Apply a suction cup near the bottom center of the screen.

  • Pull up with steady force to create a gap between the screen and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Difficulty may vary depending on phone age. Apply more heat if needed, or try alternative methods:

  • Clear packing tape for cracked screens
  • Strong tape instead of suction cup
  • Superglue the suction cup in extreme cases

Step 5 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Locate the adhesive strip near the top right corner of the phone.

  • Use a tool, such as a credit card or a spudger, to carefully pry the strip away from the phone's casing.
  • Gently rock the tool back and forth while applying gentle pressure to loosen the adhesive.
  • Continue prying until the adhesive is completely separated from the phone's casing.

Risk of damaging the screen exists during this process.

Step 20 | Reposition the screen

Step 20 image

Thumbnail 3

Separate the screen from the frame using an opening pick if necessary.

Do not remove the screen yet, as it is still connected by a cable.

  • Swing the left edge of the screen up and over the right edge of the phone.
  • Allow the screen to rest next to the phone before proceeding.

Step 21 | Unfasten the bottom bracket

Step 21 image

Keep track of each screw to ensure it's replaced exactly where it was removed.

  • For Torx Plus screws, use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver, or standard Torx bits (T3 or T4) with one size larger bit for 3IP Torx Plus screws.
  • Apply constant, downward force when driving to prevent stripping.
  • Remove the five 2.5 mm long screws securing the bottom bracket using a screwdriver that fits snugly.

Step 22 | Remove the bottom bracket

Step 22 image

Remove the bottom bracket using either tweezers or your fingers.

  • Ensure the bottom bracket is seated on its two alignment pegs during reassembly.
  • Refasten securely once aligned.

Step 23 | Disconnect the flip battery

Step 23 image

Avoid prying against the battery — risk of damage.

  • Position your spudger at the left or right edge of the press connector.
  • Use the flat end to carefully pry up and release the flip battery press connector.

When re-attaching, align pins carefully and click into place on one side, then repeat on the other. Avoid pressing in the middle — risk of pin damage.

Step 24 | Disconnect the screen

Step 24 image

Insert spudger point under short edge of screen press connector at bottom.

Avoid damaging surface-mounted components by not prying elsewhere.

  • Pry up carefully to disconnect the screen press connector.

Step 25 | Remove the screen

Step 25 image

The Pixel's screen is extremely fragile and can be damaged easily.

  • Remove the screen.
  • Grip the screen by its edges when handling to prevent damage.
  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent scratching or denting during disassembly.

Step 26 | Reassembly information

Remove large chunks of screen adhesive from perimeter using tweezers.

  • Repeat for adhesive on frame, including small strip at top right.
  • Residue can be removed with isopropyl alcohol (>90%) and lint-free cloth.

Use custom cut strips or double-sided tape (e.g. Tesa Tape) for secure screen attachment.

Step 27 | Unfasten the top bracket

Step 27 image

Thumbnail 2
  • Use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to remove three 2.5 mm long screws securing the top bracket.
  • Nearby screws may stick to the magnet at the phone's top right corner as you remove them.

  • If inserting screws is difficult, use tweezers to hold it in place while screwing in the first few threads.

Do not pry against the battery with a spudger.

  • Insert the flat end of a spudger between the top speaker and the bottom edge.
  • Twist the spudger to release the adhesive securing the top speaker.
  • Remove the top speaker, which is lightly adhered to the frame.

If your original adhesive is damaged or no longer sticky, replace it with a new one or use double-sided tape, such as Tesa Tape.

Step 30 | Disconnect the top interconnect cable

Step 30 image

  • Do not proceed without separating the boards first — potential damage.

  • Remove the upper board entirely.
  • During reassembly, ensure proper alignment with the peg before attaching anything to the upper board.
