Google Pixel Fold Earpiece Speaker Replacement

Step 1 | Safety Precautions

Allow the battery to discharge below 25% to prevent risk of explosion or fire during repair.

  • Power down the device completely, then unplug all charging cables.

Step 2 | Heat the bottom edge

Apply a heated iOpener to the lower edge of the screen for 2 minutes.

Do not insert the opening pick too far — risk of damage to the screen and internal components.

  • Identify the dark black border surrounding the screen, which holds the adhesive.
  • Insert the opening pick as deep as this border during the screen removal process.

Apply a suction cup near the center of the bottom edge.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the screen and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Difficulty may vary based on phone age. For stubborn cases, reapply heat or try again.

If severely cracked, covering the screen with clear packing tape can aid suction. Alternatively, use strong tape instead of a suction cup.

Step 5 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge to separate the adhesive.

  • Leave the opening pick in the bottom right corner for future steps.

Step 6 | Heat the right edge

Heat an iOpener and apply it to the right edge of the screen for 2 minutes.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom right adhesive

Hold the opening pick at an angle and rotate it slowly around the bottom right corner of the device.

  • The goal is to break down the adhesive without applying too much pressure.
  • Continue rotating the pick until the adhesive starts to separate from the device's casing.

Step 8 | Separate the right adhesive

Insert a new opening pick into the bottom right corner.

  • Slide the pick up towards the top right corner to detach the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place at the top right corner before proceeding further.

Step 9 | Heat the top edge

Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the screen and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 10 | Separate the top right adhesive

Position the opening pick at the top right corner and rotate it to release the adhesive.

Step 11 | Separate the top adhesive

Insert a new opening pick into the top right corner.

  • Slide the opening pick toward the top left corner.
  • The goal is to separate the adhesive completely.

Step 12 | Heat the left edge

Apply a heated iOpener to the left edge of the screen for 2 minutes.

Apply moderate to high heat and be extremely cautious when approaching the sharp corner.

  • Precision pick: Align with the screen for a flat, even angle.
  • Rotate the precision pick around the top left corner while maintaining care and focus on separation of adhesive.

Step 14 | Separate the left adhesive

Insert a new opening pick into the top left corner.

  • Slide it toward the bottom left corner to separate the adhesive.

Avoid applying excessive force or pressure on the sharp corner.

  • Apply a generous amount of heat and position your pick as flat against the screen as possible.
  • Rotate the opening pick around the bottom left corner to release the adhesive.

Step 16 | Adhesive information

Locate the adhesive strip near the top right corner of the phone.

  • Peel back the edge of the adhesive using a flat tool or credit card.
  • Continue peeling until you can insert a pry tool under the strip.
  • Pry out the remaining portion of the adhesive, taking care not to damage any surrounding components.

Step 17 | Heat the top right corner

Apply heat carefully — risk of damage or injury.

  • Heat an iOpener until warm.
  • Place iOpener on top right corner of screen for exactly two minutes.

Step 18 | Insert an opening pick

Place a precision opening pick at the top right corner of the screen, near the right edge.

  • Insert the pick further into the gap until it reaches its maximum insertion depth.
  • Be careful not to push too hard and lose your grip on the pick.

Step 19 | Separate the adhesive

Be extremely cautious not to damage the screen.

  • Twist the opening pick back and forth to loosen the adhesive.
  • Apply more heat if necessary, or adjust the pick's angle for optimal separation.

Step 20 | Reposition the screen

Check if the screen is separated from the frame. If there's remaining adhesive around the edges, use an opening pick to separate it.

  • Do not remove the screen yet, as it remains connected by a cable.
  • Swing the left edge of the screen up and over the right edge of the phone.

Let the screen rest next to the phone before proceeding further to avoid damaging internal components or cables.

Step 21 | Unfasten the bottom bracket

Keep track of each screw and ensure it is returned to its original position.

  • The Pixel Fold uses Torx Plus 3IP screws, but standard Torx bits (T3 or T4) also work.
  • Use the same size or one larger, applying constant downward force to prevent stripping.
  • To remove the five 2.5 mm-long screws securing the bottom bracket, use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

Step 22 | Remove the bottom bracket

Remove the bottom bracket using tweezers or your fingers.

  • During reassembly, ensure the bottom bracket sits on its two alignment pegs.
  • Refasten the bottom bracket once it is properly aligned.

Step 23 | Disconnect the flip battery

Do not pry against the battery during this step.

Angle your spudger under the left or right edges of the press connector.

Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully pry up and disconnect the flip battery press connector.

  • To re-attach, align and press down on one side until it clicks into place.
  • Repeat on the other side. Do not press in the middle.
  • If misaligned, pins can bend and cause permanent damage.

Step 24 | Disconnect the screen

Insert the point of a spudger under the short edge of the screen press connector facing downwards.

Do not insert the spudger elsewhere, as you risk damaging surface-mounted components on the logic board.

  • Pry upwards to disconnect the screen press connector.

Step 25 | Remove the screen

Fragile screen may be damaged easily; handle with care.

  • Remove the screen.
  • Grip the screen edges when handling.
  • Place on a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent damage during disassembly.

Reassembly requires the following steps:

  • Tweezers should be used to remove large chunks of adhesive from the perimeter of the screen.
  • Repeat this process for any remaining adhesive on the frame, including the top right section.
  • If your top right adhesive is still intact and sticky, you can reuse it.

Proceed with caution when handling sharp or fragile components.

  • Use a lint-free cloth and >90% isopropyl alcohol to remove any remaining adhesive residue.
  • Follow the guide for replacing screen adhesive.
  • If custom cut strips are unavailable, use double-sided tape (such as Tesa Tape) to secure the screen to the frame.

Step 27 | Unfasten the top bracket

Use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to remove three 2.5 mm-long screws securing the top bracket.

  • Be aware that there is a magnet at the top right corner of the phone, which may cause nearby screws to stick.
  • If inserting screws proves difficult, use tweezers to hold it in place while screwing in the first few threads.

Step 28 | Remove the top bracket

Locate the flip vibrator attached to the underside of the top bracket.

  • Pull the top bracket toward the left edge of the phone to release it from its recess in the frame.
  • Remove the top bracket completely.

During reassembly, ensure the right edge of the top bracket is securely seated under its lip in the frame before aligning screw holes to avoid damage or misalignment.

Step 29 | Remove the top speaker

Risk of damage if spudger is used against battery.

  • Insert flat end of spudger between top speaker and bottom edge.
  • Twist spudger to separate adhesive securing bottom speaker.
  • Remove top speaker.

If original adhesive is still sticky, it can be reused during reassembly. Otherwise, refer to the replacement guide or use double-sided tape, such as Tesa Tape, to secure speaker to frame.

Step 30 | Disconnect the top interconnect cable

Use the flat end of spudger to gently pry up and release the top interconnect cable's press connector.

Step 31 | Remove the upper board

Release the upper board by pulling it towards the bottom of the phone.

  • Pull the upper board away from its recess in the frame until separated.
  • The upper board can now be removed.

Ensure the upper board is seated correctly on its alignment peg during reassembly to prevent damage or short circuits.

Step 32 | Remove the detune board

  • Position the spudger's flat end at the bottom edge of the detune board.
  • Twist the spudger to release the board from its metal clip.
  • Remove the detune board.

Step 33 | Reassembly information

Secure the detune board by angling it downward against the right edge of the frame.

  • Engage the spring connector by pressing the board against the right edge of the frame.
  • Slot the board into its clip and secure it to the frame by pressing downward.

Step 34 | Heat the earpiece speaker

Apply extreme caution when using external heat sources, as they may damage the display or internal battery.

  • Use an iOpener or a hair dryer to heat the earpiece speaker for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a heat gun or hot plate, but exercise extra care to avoid damaging the display or internal battery.

Step 35 | Separate the adhesive

Insert the flat end of a spudger between the frame and the bottom of the earpiece speaker.

  • Twist the spudger to separate the adhesive under the body of the earpiece speaker.
  • If required, use an opening pick to slide underneath the speaker instead.

Step 36 | Remove the earpiece speaker

Check that the earpiece speaker connector is not stuck to the frame.

  • Pull the earpiece speaker away from the frame using the right edge of the speaker.
  • If it's still sticky, apply heat and try again.
  • Remove the earpiece speaker completely.

If your adhesive is intact, you can reuse it. Otherwise, follow the guide for replacing it with custom strips or use Tesa Tape as an alternative.
