Apply a suction cup near the center of the bottom edge of the screen.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the screen and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.
  • Apply more heat if necessary, especially for older phones.
  • Badly cracked screens may require covering with clear packing tape before applying the suction cup.

    • As a last resort, you can use strong tape instead of the suction cup or superglue it to the screen.

Step 5 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Step 20 | Reposition the screen

Step 20 image

Separate the screen from the frame using an opening pick for remaining adhesive if necessary.

Do not remove the screen yet as it's still connected by a cable.

  • Swing the left edge of the screen up and over the right edge of the phone.
  • Allow the screen to rest next to the phone before proceeding further.

Step 21 | Unfasten the bottom bracket

Step 21 image

Keep track of each screw for reassembly.

  • Identify and label all removed screws.
  • For removal, use a T3 Torx, T4 Torx, or equivalent with the correct Torx Plus size (e.g., T3 with 3IP screws).
  • Apply constant downward force to avoid stripping when using non-Torx Plus bits.
  • Remove five 2.5 mm-long screws securing the bottom bracket with a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

Step 22 | Remove the bottom bracket

Step 22 image

Remove the bottom bracket using either tweezers or your fingers.

Ensure the bottom bracket sits in both alignment pegs during reassembly to prevent misalignment.

Step 23 | Disconnect the flip battery

Step 23 image

Avoid prying against the battery.

  • Position your spudger at a 45-degree angle under the left or right edges of the press connector.
  • Use the flat end to pry and release the flip battery press connector.

When re-attaching: Align carefully, then press down on one side until it clicks. Repeat on the other side. Do not press in the middle.

Step 24 | Disconnect the screen

Step 24 image

Insert the point of a spudger under the short edge of the screen press connector facing the bottom of the phone.

  • Pry up carefully to disconnect the screen press connector.

Be cautious not to insert your spudger anywhere else, as you risk damaging surface-mounted components on the logic board.

Step 25 | Remove the screen

Step 25 image

Remove the screen.

  • Grip the screen by its edges when handling.
  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent damage.

The back of the Pixel's screen is fragile and can be damaged by small scratches or dents.

Step 26 | Reassembly information

Step 26 image

Reusing your screen? Use tweezers to scrape off large chunks of adhesive from the screen perimeter.

  • Repeat for any remaining adhesive on the frame, including the top right small strip.
  • If the top right adhesive is still sticky and intact, you can reuse it.

Do not attempt to use a reusable adhesive — risk of poor screen fit and damage.

Remove any remaining adhesive residue using isopropyl alcohol (90%+) and a lint-free cloth.

  • If you don't have custom cut adhesive strips, use Tesa Tape or similar double-sided tape to secure the screen.

Double-sided tape may compromise phone durability and water resistance.

Step 27 | Unfasten the top bracket

Step 27 image

The magnet on the top right corner may attract nearby screws.

  • Remove the three Torx Plus 3IP screws securing the top bracket using a screwdriver.

  • Pull the top bracket toward the left edge of the phone to separate it from its recess in the frame.
  • Remove the top bracket.

During reassembly, ensure the top bracket's right edge is seated under its lip in the frame before aligning screw holes to prevent damage or misalignment.
