The following steps will replace the front camera for your Google Pixel Fold's foldable screen.
Note that some photos in this guide show different states of disassembly, but these do not impact the guide procedure.
Let the battery discharge below 25% charge before commencing this repair, as a fully charged battery may ignite during damage.
Place the phone on a clean surface, back glass facing up.
Using the Anti-Clamp: skip to step 6 for an alternate method.
Position suction cups carefully: avoid the inner screen bezel to ensure proper adhesion.
For smooth surfaces, use tape to create a grippier surface; for cracked glass, use packing tape to aid adhesion.
Place an object under your phone, such as a box or stack of books.
Ensure the suction cups remain aligned with each other. If they begin to slip out of alignment, detach and realign the arms to avoid misalignment issues.
Insert an opening pick into the gap under the back glass.
Applying too much pressure can cause damage or shattering.
If difficulty is experienced, apply more heat to the edge before retrying.
Inserting the opening pick deeper than 3.5 mm risks damaging internal components.
Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the back glass and heat it for 2 minutes.
Position the opening pick at the bottom left corner and rotate it to loosen the adhesive.
Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the back glass and heat it for 2 minutes.
Hold the opening pick in place near the top left corner and rotate it slowly to break the adhesive's seal.
Apply a iOpener preheated according to manufacturer's instructions to the right edge of the back glass for 2 minutes.
Be careful when approaching the sharp corner, as it is prone to damage.
The sharp corner is extremely fragile; use caution when handling it.
Ensure the back glass is still connected to the phone via a cable.
Lift the left edge of the back glass and swing it over the right edge of the phone.
Keep track of each screw for reassembly.
Note that standard Torx bits may work with Torx Plus screws but can lead to stripping if not matched correctly.
Remove the two middle bracket screws using a Torx Plus 3IP driver.
Use tweezers or your fingers to pull the middle bracket toward the left edge of the phone and release its clip.
Use a spudger to disconnect the back glass cable from the motherboard.
Misaligned connectors can cause permanent damage to the pins.
Remove the back glass.
Remove large chunks of adhesive from the back glass and frame using tweezers.
Use isopropyl alcohol (>90%) with a lint-free cloth to remove remaining adhesive residue.
Alternatively, secure the back glass with double-sided tape (e.g. Tesa Tape).
The graphite sheet is fragile and lightly adhered; handle with care when peeling.
During reassembly:
Remove the screw cover using tweezers or a clean fingertip.
Remove the bottom bracket screws using a Torx Plus 3IP driver.
Release the bottom bracket by pulling it towards the bottom edge of the phone.
Reinsert the bottom bracket clip under the logic board slot before securing it with screws, ensuring proper alignment.
Be careful not to damage the press connector — risk of short circuit.
Remove the grey conductive tape from the bottom interconnect cable.
Accidental contact can damage the logic board.
Remove the bottom interconnect cable conductive tape's protective liner.
Press down conductive tape using a spudger or your fingers.
Remove the top bracket by unscrewing the two Torx Plus 3IP screws, each with a length of 2.8 mm.
Move the top bracket towards the left edge to disengage its retaining clips.
Insert the tip of a spudger under the bottom right corner of the front camera press connector.
Apply heat from an iOpener to the front camera for 2 minutes.
Grasp the front camera near its connector, as close to the body as possible.
Reused adhesive must still be intact and sticky during reassembly.
